I've just taken possession of my Toyota Aygo Mk 2 but the gear knob is worn. Looking to replace but can't for the life of me work out how to take the thing off. Anyone got any pointers?

Thanks.

Hi John and welcome to the board,

You remove the gear knob by unscrewing it.....It really is that simple but it's probably very tight.  When you get a new car you're always a bit careful with it but in this case, don't worry!

Get a good hold of it and just use brute force to turn it anti-clockwise (Lefty loosey, righty tighty) You'll probably hear a bit of a crack and then it will turn, again don't worry as that will just be the threads loosening against the gear stick.

A replacement gear knob isn't cheap but it is worth changing it....I know because I put a mark 2 knob on my mark 1 Aygo.

Like I say just close your eyes and give it some welly.

All the best!

It's just screwed on, IIRC it's the usually 8mm thread, wrap it in a cloth then try failing that a cloth and a pair of pump pliers/5 holes or what ever they're called in your locale

I have a genuine Toyota black one in excellent condition if you want it for free.  Taken from my daughter's MK2 Aygo when I swapped all the back interior for white.

Just pay for p&p and you can have it .
