Hi

So I've been experiencing the EPB issue that many of you have already

EPB won't disengage

Took the pins out of the calliper to get her moving

And subsequently got her on the computer to find this fault!

A current at the motor fault?

Has anybody any knowledge as to the best route forward with this EPB situation?

The car is 2009 Avensis Diesel Estate

Many thanks again 👍

So Toyota have just said that it can't be fixed (over the phone conversation I might add)

And that the part is €2k without labour

Fuses are fine

Obviously the callipers aren't seized, the pistons I mean!

Because it's driving!!

What do you do in this situation?

The car is a decent workhorse in pretty good condition...estate..it's clean but to throw €2k+ at it is not something I'm interested in doing!

The only real option here is to do find one second hand, have it mounted by a non dealer mechanic and have it coded to your car. I think this is possible at least, not 100 % sure but I'm sure you can find out if you research these forums and the web a bit deeper.

I have a 2009 T27 as well and I'm curious how many kms is on yours? I'm uncertain of whether it's wear and tear related or if certain models were simply fitted with a bad one and others completely fine.

Units are £5-600 Toyota have them on backorder you need to replace it with the correct one like for like, No coding needed, the correct way is to wind off the EPB is via the release in the boot the Allen key slot is under a sticker/rubber bung on the boot floor (passenger side) it takes 400-600 turns so best done with a drill

You may need to perform the zero point calibration after replacing it

a bit of light reading

Drop me a PM with a VIN if you require a part number

C13A5 fault code does not necessarily mean an epb motor failure: it can also mean the skid control ecu malfunction. Maybe even the epb switch?

In this case, it would be a good idea to have the system inspected by an independent mechanic who has Techstream? And only after that go shopping for parts?

Just thinking...

C13A5 is open circuit in power source or high current draw, these early EPB motors are notorious for water ingress the EPB ecu's usually don't cause an issue
