Hi All,

I've had my Toyota Argo automatic for 3 years next May and I’ve had it fully serviced too along with the MOT now I’ve not done over 3000 miles in it yet! It’s just for shopping trips ect it’s due for it annually MOT on the 8th of November my friend said not to get the service as I don’t need it? Should I get my car fully serviced every year like I have or am. I wasting money?

thanks in advance for any replies it’s much appreciated

Toyota's service intervals are 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

Where have you been having the car serviced - Toyota dealer, independent of where?

Hi Karen,

Money spent servicing a car is never wasted, in my opinion so carry on and do it.

My little fella is a 2012, mark 1 and I have recently turned over 50000 miles on the clock in 11 years, an average of 4500 miles per year.  I get it serviced annually, for the past 8 years at my local, trusted and fabulous independant garage who always say that it is a "little minter" or "well looked after".

They do the MOT as well and always check for the little things that could turn expensive.  Things like rubber seals and boots. exhaust brackets, struts, the condition underneath the car and many other things as well.

Regular servicing helps if you come to sell it as a full service history is a great thing but mainly keeps the oil and fluids fresh, keeps the car running at it's best and prolongs it's life.

Aygos are great little cars, I've never kept a vehicle as long in my life and I still love the bones of it so I look after it.  It sounds like you are the same as you have asked the question but it sounds to me that you have been given some dodgy advice by your friend. (Sorry about that)

My advice, for what it's worth is to carry on as you have been doing, get it serviced, look after it and it won't let you down.

I hope that helps in some way.....All the best!

Hi, Karen,

Definitely get your car serviced it's never money wasted as said above. It's surprising regardless of how little mileage you may have covered what may need attention and "prevention is better then cure."👍

At minimum an oil change is always required even if the car has been sitting not doing much, so no, a service is not a waste of time and money.

It depends - The car's well out of warranty so if you don't care about the car then skipping services can save some money, but it'll crater the resell value if it doesn't have full service history.

Also, one of the reasons to change the oil is it gets acidic from exhaust fumes, and changing it means it has fresher acidity regulators - Maybe not so bad from such low mileage, but oil does break down over time and not just from use, albeit more slowly.

If you want to keep the car long term tho', keeping to the 10k miles/1 year service interval is recommended.

Have you got a source for that.

It gets acidic from blow-by gases.

If it has been serviced by a Toyota dealer, probably in year 9 of Relax ....

I know it is tempting to skip servicing with very low mileage, our cars do very low mileages nowadays, but I always do oil + oil filter change yearly. You can stretch other service items like air filter, brakes etc cos you don't do the mileage, so you do save money and compared to cars of yesteryear certain service items have a longer service life, so you save again, but one thing that hasn't changed in all my years of car ownership is yearly oil + oil filter change.

yeah its been like that for me as well in the last three years low mileage with working from home. If you're still worried about changing lanes, I suggest using stick on blind spots on your mirrors.

Perhaps just oil and filter change, that will do.
