Hi. Probably been posted many times but noticed today the wet carpet behind the drivers seat 5 door. Could it be doorseal, blocked door drainage holes or something else. Had a boot issue but sealed the joints with silicone, boot issue fixed

Hi there Paul,

Water ingress into the spare wheel well and the boot area is the usual on the Aygo, C1 and 107. Do you park the veicle on a downward slope that could allow water to run foward and under the rear seat and then creep into the rear footwell? Any sign of the rear seat being wet at all?

Have also seen the rear headlining damp so water getting inside at a high level at the back, rear tailgate hinge gaskets not sealing as they should after time can cause water the run down inside the body box sections and can get into the foot wells.

Have also read of the plastic membrane behind the door cards either being torn or the mastic that fixes it in place coming free. These can allow the water that normally gets inside the door to make it's way out and trickle down onto the footwell carpet. You could also have the drain holes blocked in the bottom of that particular door that will cause water to build up inside the door and find another way out inside the car.

There are also airvents behind the rear bumper which can leak but think these are unlikely to cause your problem as they are too low down really.

Hi Paul.

In order to find the leak try a hose and spay over each individual panel of the car this should identify the leak.

I get that which is how I found the boot leak. However difficult to do that to find the footwell issue

Try putting some paper towels/brown paper or such along the drivers side rear door sill and watch for tell tail signs of water leaks.

Is it possible that the wet carpet is as a result of the previous leals in the rear you have cured and didn't notice before. Drying the carpet out will be a task for you too.

Hi Paul and welcome to the board

Get yourself onto Amazon and buy a roll of this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Universal-Adhesive-Automotive-Weatherstrip-Soundproofing/dp/B0BN9T7GCP/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=2LTY6KAVIK620&keywords=car%2Bdoor%2Bseal&qid=1698625157&sprefix=car%2Bdoor%2Bsea%2Caps%2C243&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&th=1

There are loads of videos on Youtube of how to fit it to the tailgate, front or rear doors or probably even to your cat......Ignore those ones, as we're nice folks on here!!!!!

I've fitted a strip of this on the tailgate  of my 2012 Fire and my boot (Touch wood) is as dry as a bone. My little fella is a 3 door but my guess is that this will work a treat on the rear doors of a 5 door as they are prone to water ingress in the back.

Good luck with it and all the best!

If there's any real amount of water getting in then its likely you'll find it has not only soaked the carpet but has also gone through in to the underfelt beneath and drying that insitu will be difficult. With the cold weather coming you'll be getting problems with very bad condensation on the windows if there's any quantity of water lying about in the interior.

Remove the underfelt, stand it up to drain off and then indoors to dry completely. Youll need to remove the rear seat to do this, better if you can get the carpet out but thats a major task as lots of the interior trim/seats need to be removed first.

I had to deal with a fuel leak from the in tank fuel pump that flooded the rear seat, carpet and underfelts but I was working on a 3 door C1 so your 5 door Aygo mabe be easier (or not). I used old towels stuffed under the carpet better to wick up the worst off the liquid up I was dealing with and then a hair drier to follow up. Took weeks for that lovely aroma of petrol to disappear, your problem may be with a nasty damp musty smell.

Have also been reading on the forum that the opening rear passenger door windows can be a cause of water getting into the rear of the 5 door veicles.

The best way to dry it is to stick a dehumidifier in there for a week or so. It will dry it completely without having to remove anything.

I do this yearly with all my cars, usually in the spring.

Yeah, I've always had silica gel packs scattered throughout my cars, which my friends find amusing, but when it gets to this time of year I'm the only one with a car that doesn't immediately fog up when the HVAC turns on

Also use the AC - That helps remove moisture from the car too!
