Hi,

I recently bought a 2020 Toyota Corolla Fielder (Japanese Import) and it is getting caught underneath when I go over some speed ramps. The tire size it came fitted with are 185/60R15 84H.

Can anybody tell me if this is a common problem or if the wheel size above would be the issue.

Unfortunately as it was imported from Japan I did not receive a manual.

Thanks

My yaris 2016 had the same profile tyres and did the same, it had a piece of plastic protector on the underneath front mount, think this is the problem with mine. New Yaris 2023 on 16" doesn't do this, doesn't have plastic piece underneath.

*That is a very small size tyre for a corolla.

Thanks Mojo, I thought it might have been the mud guard rubbing hitting the ramp but sounded more excruciating like the undercarriage. I had a feeling 15 inch wheels where too small but want to be sure 16 inch wheels will fix the issue before I buy them.

If Speedo tolerance allows, go for 205/55/16, this will be 27mm higher than current tyre/wheel, and also one of the cheapest tyre profile. Will be a lot better grip and handling for the corolla too.

Here two websites to help you calculate all you need and find suitable replacement new sets of wheels and tyres. Best practice is to stick to what manufacturers recommended sizes are but you can go slightly off course, not too large margins because all outside the parameters change the car dynamics characteristic. Insurance will need to be informed too.

Come to think of it, surely a 2020 corolla cannot come with that tiny tyre size? I wasn't happy with the performance of that size on the Yaris.

It is grey import from Japan, and Japanese Domestic Market vehicles will have different specs to Europe.

16 in wheels will only raise it
