2010 Yaris 1.33, getting P0016 code for check engine light

I'm not really sure what the issue is as the car is at 77k mileage and the engine light came up suddenly even though it drives fine. I changed the engine oil and used the preferred one Toyota says and the engine light did go away but then after a while, it came back. Just the other day, I drove the car and the light wasn't on and then came on after I returned back from the shops. The car is running fine and not hearing any noises or any difficulty starting it.

Has anyone else had similar issues and knows what the fix was?

Thanks

Hi,

you can Google it and find tons of information. Usually the fault is related to camshaft position sensor. There are also YouTube videos with how to test or replace this sensor.
Good luck

Thanks, I'll take a look. How serious is the issue if I don't address it given I'm not having any issues with the car?

Hello, I encountered a similar issue with my Auris 1.33. I switched the oil from 0W-20 to 5W-30, and subsequently, an error message appeared after driving approximately 40 miles. I cleared the error yesterday, and it has not reappeared today.

I would appreciate your guidance on resolving this problem.

P0016 is usually related to the OCV not reacting fast enough 5w30 may be too thick when cold
