Mud flaps on RAV4. Any good?

Recommended Posts

Thinking about to put on mud flaps on our RAV 4 phev.

Anyone here who had tested that?

Is it any positive difference in case of avoiding mud/ dirt

I have them on my car, but I choose them because I like "this look". Maybe they help abit, but I can't compare - all my cars have them.

Hi,

I have no experience with your model and I am exactly opposite the above about the look, I think mudflaps make any car look bad.
They will work of course and reduce the dirt that builds up on the car.
If you have winter or all season tyres mud flaps are highly recommended because these type of tyres V shaped tread does make the car twice as dirty as if you drive on standard summer tyres.,

I have the official Toyota mud flaps. There is still spray from the front wheels along the doors and it’s difficult to assess if they’d would be any worse without them. My gut feel is they are reasonably effective. I always have them fitted on any car I own.

Yes. I had them added as part of a protection pack when I bought the car.

Good luck with finding any now though. My dealer says that all mudflaps, for all models, are no longer available. No date is given for any expected return.

Our car looks like this with Bridgestone Alenza summer tyres and no mud flaps.

Our local ( in Sweden) toyota dealer/garage says they can order and fit mud flaps on our car within two weeks.

Costs 2.600 sek with work. ( about 195.43 GBP )

I have no reason to disbelieve that which my dealer told me. He is generally pretty hot on what can or cannot be found in the Toyota parts world. Anywhere that is showing them as available to order I would presume have some residual stock.
If you want some I would recommend grab 'em while you can.

You can fit them yourself in about 45mins with basic tools, ratchet set and right angled Posi driver with no need to even remove the wheels.

I have mud flaps fitted to every car I buy, they do make a difference in my opinion, deflecting a fair percentage of what gets thrown up by the tyres.

With mudflaps for comparison, based on the other pictures, they do reduce the amount of dirt on the sides.

Mine came with flaps and they do work and I don't find them ugly. They are not as grey as on the other pictures, they blend well with the rest of the trim. Get them!

Talked to my local Toyota dealer/garage yesterday but...

they didn´t thought that there was any big difference to the better in case of preventing dirt/mud, with mud flaps 😞

I have to think about it and if I think its worth the money

My view is that something is better than nothing.  In the scheme of things they are  relatively small investment against the cost of a car and its maintenance. In the UK we have a lot of pot holes and again mud flaps do prevent the rubble and small stones from being thrown up the side of the car.

The cynic in me says they're telling you that because they don't have any in stock and can't get any.

I had flaps added to mine when I bought the car - part of protection pack - and I would not be without them. I have been trying to get some for the Aygo X as well but they are not available. My friendly parts guy tells me that there are none available to order and no suggestions as to when they may return, if at all.

If you want RAV4 flaps and they are available online then I would grab them while you can.

Do You think that installing mud flaps will decrease the "used/swap" price/value?

We havn´t decided if we will ceep this current car ( 2020 RAV 4 PHEV) for long or if we will "swap" it for a newer in about one/two years

1. Why would it?
2. If you think it will when it comes to sell them remove them.
