I have the official Toyota mud flaps. There is still spray from the front wheels along the doors and it’s difficult to assess if they’d would be any worse without them. My gut feel is they are reasonably effective. I always have them fitted on any car I own.

Ditto.

I couldn't see mud flaps as an option on the GR Sport PHEV. Anyone know anything here ? Thank you.

Unless the chassis has changed they will be just the standard mud flaps I'd guess?

They are not an option - just [dealer fit] accessories ...

Have had the mudflaps on for some time now and I think it actually helps to reduce dirt/mud on the lower sides of the car but...

Maybe just in my imagination but I think they cause a bit more roadnoice when the road is wet

I've ordered some to be here in the New Year and will update on their effectiveness - I live in a farm lane and over winter it's muddy most of the time!

Remember, mudflaps are not just there to reduce the spray on your car, but mainly to reduce the amount of stones and muck you fling at other cars.

Apart from improving visibility for other drivers, there is an environmental element to this. Windscreen replacements (most often paid for by your insurance) have quite a heavy CO2 impact during manufacture. Some insurers have estimated that mudflaps can reduce the number of damaged windscreens by up to 45%. When you look at it at a larger, national perspective with millions of cars, it all adds up.

In Scandinavia mudflaps were mandatory up until 1981 and they have since slowly disappeared. They are now considering introducing incentives like reduced insurance premiums for drivers that have them fitted.

In short, yes you should install them 🙂

I got some from AliExpress when I bought my car 3 years ago. I've compared them to OEM as far as I can and I can't see any difference. They were easy to fit and are still perfect. Cost me £17 for 4 if I remember rightly.

Always have them fitted - usually dealers will include them as part of a deal.  Used to know the proprietor of a body repair business who told me that “people who don’t fit mud flaps keep me in business.”  Mind you this was several years ago!

Update on having the mudflaps on - in my case (living a country lane) they have made a huge difference in reducing the amount of mud and dirt thrown onto the car during this particularly wet and muddy winter, so very pleased with them!
