Hi , has anyone had a pearl red Corolla painted or panel painted and if so how did the paint match after the repair ? I know red under street lights can be a nightmare to show the different shade but just wondered about the pearl red , thanks

I work for a high-end multi-manufacturer approved accident repair centre and pearlescent paint is the worst paint to colour match  The chaps I work with who've been in the game for 20-30 or 40 years have never bought cars with pearlescent paint due to the poor colour match after a repair.

If it's been done by a reputable repairer and although it will be guaranteed work, I'd probably stick with their finish unless it's blatant, as usually under any rectification the colour match will get worse.

Pearls need to be hand tinted and usually have to blend in other panels around it more than a metallic, i had a car with a pearl Mica - that was a pain to match, 2 shops and 3 attempts to get it correct

3 stage water based pearls are a mare you need to get every stage correct

leave the paint to a well experienced painter

It's the scarlet flare colour that they're doing so hopefully it'll be ok , if it's not done correctly the sales guy said I can get my refund

How large is the scuff?  Are they touching it in?  Don't expect the salesman to remember when you come to collect.

They're actually doing a rear door on a hatchback, and two scuffs , I have the email still that says I can refuse the car if it's not right

Is your dealer outsourcing it, or do they have their own bodyshop?

I honestly don't know , it's a Toyota main dealer that the car is at , he said after it's done I can go and see it again, if it's not right I can refuse the car , originally I spotted the dull shine on the door and looked closer and it had definitely been lacquered poorly , colour match looked ok

Yeah, I used to live in Wigan, I've tried to take a look and see if it is their own shop, but it seems they may outsource it as it looks like the dealership service area and valet bay on their site.

When I looked at the colour in sunlight the colour match was fine it was the fact there was hardly any shine on it and looked duller, I'm a bit iffy about this now tbh 🤦🏻‍♂️

Can you take someone with you?

You're handing over a lot of cash and want it to look right of course, but sometimes another set of eyes can help, especially if you can find someone who works in the industry.

I work in the motor trade , I sell parts , not paint side of things and I noticed it straight away , if it's done right and a spot on match then I'm good with that , I can't pay a lot of money and know it's slightly " off "

Can anyone tell me if the red paint option on the Yaris Cross is pearlescent?  I am considering a red YC as my next car.

It is pearlescent and it’s nice one but with all negatives mentioned.
The more expensive white and red are pearlescent and cost £920.
Silver is very nice option for £630 , I seen it in person on Yaris cross and bz4x and they look soo good.

Thanks Tony.  Metallic Silver is my second choice and it is a good colour for not showing the dirt.

If the dealer is based in Wigan the body shop is an approved company in Standish who did some work on my car. It was repeated twice and still failed again. The attitude of the body shop was terrible. I needed to chase them up time after time to try to get it sorted and not once did they proactively contact me. In the end the dealer I bought it from got the job done properly at their approved shop in Preston. Check any work they do for you carefully

HB Panelcraft in Preston were actually recommended to me on a detailling forum. Just so happened they were the approved body shop for Vantage Preston
