2.0 ts hybrid noisy high pressure pump

Noticed yesterday for the first time that when I started up car from cold with bonnet up the high pressure fuel pump is very noisy for the first few minutes.

Anyone else noticed this... Got to say with bonnet down you don't notice this as its quite well insulated.

That’s typical for these engines. That’s why some owners find them noisier than 1.8 others think they are quieter, perhaps they mean on motorways.

Just done quick video  let's see if you can hear any difference between both videos taken 1 minute apart.

Haha, first video sounds like 2.0, second sounds like 1.8 👌

Is that the direct injectors making the noise in the first clip, then the engine switching to the port ones for the second?

I've read remarks about Toyota fitting extra sound insulation to the 2.0 cars because of the direct injection being noisier, but never heard it for myself.

It's not the injector making noise it's high pressure pump ticking away... Goes quiet if you place your hand on pump or after a minute or so running.. It may be normal, I just happened to have bonnet up topping up washer fluid and defrosting windscreen when motor started.

I think it’s normal. Starting would use the HPFP, moving to port injection (quieter) once certain parameters satisfied

Yes I agree - part of the start programme involves cycling through the direct injection system and indirect port injection
