Pretty much the question in the title. Philips saying a much improved illumination over std H11's

If H11 are the high beam lights then it will be an MOT fail.

How so? I see some adverts are saying off road only but not all like the Philips.

Yes they are the high beam, D4S are the dipped beams.

OK, had a good read up and I understand now. Regulations haven't really kept up with technology and thats no surprise.

Thanks for pointing it out, would have made a mistake otherwise.

By law, all bulbs need to be E-marked/certified otherwise they're not allowed, and LED ones generally aren't; Also there was an MOT directive to automatically fail cars with aftermarket LEDs that are in housings only rated for halogen, although how many MOT stations actually bother about this is up for debate.

Currently, the only legal way to convert to LEDs is to replace the whole headlamp housing with an LED one. This is partly why, if you have a car with LED headlamps and some of the LEDs stop working, you have to replace the whole lamp, as it's considered a single unit and the insides are not considered repairable/replaceable (Ironic given they're supposed to be making things more sustainable)
