As much as I enjoy the iQ experience - the fact that it is coming up to its 10th Anniversary of the plug being pulled has meant some of the leading technology has become dated (although remaining innovative in such a small car) I had it it all worked out, replace the Satnav with car play, fit bluetooth Battery monitoring (I have this on my other vehicles) and an Apple AirTag as a cheap Tracker to assist should the iQ go AWOL.

Having used the TNS Satnav to bring it home, I realised that it’s a well-specified unit with only DAB being a missing component I’d keep this in place.  Since I only want a run-around the best insurance deal provided for 2,000m pa and they provided an OBD2 dongle.  At a strike this provided much of the missing communications from the iQ that are accepted as standard in a car of the 2020’s.

The dongle impressed because it monitors the Battery voltage and sends an alert to my phone to warn that it needs a drive/recharging. Further, a phone app can warn of Error Codes that the dongle detects whilst the need for an AirTag has been removed as the app will show on a map where the car is located, ticking off many of the upgrades I had planned to do. It also stores the route you’ve driven which is available later and can be viewed on the same map. Of course as a security measure it’s hardly ideal as it can be circumvented just by unplugging, but I might go belt and braces with an AirTag anyway!  I couldn’t believe how useful this all was and part of the insurance package.  If you’d like something similar without the insurance element, you can buy a similar device either hard wired or ODB2 for under £40.  Your iQ will thank you! 🤠
