Booked to see Lulu in April, looking forward to it.

Always amazed at her vocal range and how she can really sing anything 👍

Not wishing to put a dampner on this, but on a cruise a few years ago the act on board ship was Lulu and Kiki Dee, the latter held the show together and was by far the better of the two singers.

Hi Geoff, I'll just need to see how it goes.

A few years ago we paid ridiculous money to see Madonna at the Glasgow Hydro as I've always liked her music and voice.

She appeared on stage an hour late and was absolutely total rubbish, so much so we left early ☹️

£500 quid down the drain 😳

There can be frequent disappointment when going to watch singers live.  When their albums are recorded, much of the quality is due to the sound controllers, and on stage their faults are not tuned out.

I must admit there aren't many singers I like, but anything with a solid guitar solo and I'm in

Ah Lulu and Kiki Dee on a ship, that must have been some show.

I like both Lulu's and Kiki's voices, I can imagine a scenario where the ship's purser decided that a precautionary call during rough seas to muster stations was called for.

Lulu's curtain call would have been "the boat that I row" and Kiki's , anticipating the separation would have been "don't go breaking my heart".

It's ok though, they all got home safe.

I think I'll get my coat

I always think that a singer has a good voice when they sound, singing live, very similar to what they sound like on albums.  Many of the 'top singers' who sing on 'Strictly Come Dancing', (I have to watch it - the lady of the house watches it ☺️), sound terrible. One of the worst sounding singers I have seen singing live on the TV was Paul McCartney - absolutely excrutiating!

Hi David, another problem is that some brilliant singers are now past it, some in their seventies, even older, and their singing voice has gone, but they refuse to give up 🤔

Paul McCartney is an obvious candidate 😄

Hi Iain,

Too many singers keep going when their voices are beginning to struggle.  Whilst recording tracks and albums, it is the sound engineers who produce the quality.  Many times the final “cut” is the result of multiple attempts, and even the joining up of parts of several attempts.  At this stage, singing live shows up their pitfalls.

When it comes to large, outdoor performances they can get away with it, because acoustic quality cannot be truly achieved in such conditions.

I see Barry Manilow is an example of this, he has just announced his "last last last lasssssst UK concert". I do actually get it with the old performers why they do it. It's the buzz and it's in their blood . It doesn't seem to bother them that the voice and performance isn't that good it's the kick they get from playing to an audience.

Where I draw a line is as was mentioned in @Hybrid21  post and Madonna and her poor performance. People pay an absolute fortune to see her it's a lot of dosh and I wonder how many come away feeling they have been ripped off.

If they are going to tour do it at a reasonable price and not ££££££.:wheelchair::smile:

They ask what would you do with a time machine.

I'd go back and see ACDC in the 70s before Bon Scott died.

We've seen a few older performers over the last few years who have been brilliant, although not as good as they were when younger, but they still have it 👍

Elton John, Glen Campbell, Rod Stewart, Dianna Ross, Barbara Dickson, Don Henley and Chris Rea to name a few.

Ah Paul,

“Mandy” told me “ I Write the Songs” it's a Miracle” but “Looks like we made it” “Somewhere In The Night” “Even Now” I Made It Through The Rain” Could It Be Magic”

“I Can't Smile Without You” “Please Don't Be Scared” “ Let's Hang On” “ I'd Really Love To see You Tonight “ “ Somewhere Down The Road” Trying to get that feeling again”

Compared to the CD album I have of Glen Campbell, the last time I heard him he had definitely lost a lot of his voice.  I also have some old records of Guy Mitchell at his peak, and my last memories of him performing made me feel embarrassed for him.

I now avoid listening to the once talented “oldies” as it spoils my memories of how they used to be.

That reminds me of Metallica - There's a joke about Hetfield finally hitting puberty in his 30's because his voice dropped and they had to start down-tuning all their songs by a step so he could still sing them comfortably
