Just wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some (simple) information on how the VVTL-i engines work.

Thanks

Hello, the vvtl-i ,variable valve timing lift intelligent, works very much like the vvti system as you go up the rev range the valves open longer and quicker to provide better power and emissions.when the vvtl-i hits the 6200rpm mark the oil pressure/ecu lock in the lift system to give you the final burst in power.the same really as a vvti only you have more power and a powerband.

hello,martenj76,what i mean't was the vvtl-i is basically a 1.8 vvti but with the lift intelligent, very good kick once you hit 6200 rpm but not as powerful as i-vtec type-r.i should know i have worked on the toyotas for long enough!

Just to be annoying, but the 1.8 VVTi and 1.8 VVTLi engines are totally different. ie different bore, stroke, infact practically as far as i know there are no common parts.

andrew98,if the 1.8 vvti and 1.8 vvtli have different bore, stroke etc how can both engines still be 1.8?difference in the bore and stroke would push up the cc,vvtli is worked by the cams-variable VALVE TIMING lift intelligent.anyway why would toyota design a completely different engine for the vvtli when they already had a 1.8 in the celica which done the trick for the t-sport when mated up to the lift system.
