That all I lost plus phone shortcuts the rest loaded back in automatically but dont do it unless you can clock up 500 miles or more before your next service as some health data is lost for the high voltage Battery.

If you notice your headlights are dim regardless of manual or auto setting add load veriations it indicates your Battery voltage is low!,

Thanks for the link Dala, just read all that... but confused, your example is a Honda?

Then hind goes on to question the theory just like I've questioned it with Sascha

Then Cyker goes on to suggest the same as I did (that adding more load triggers a higher charge rate).

We shouldn't have to be doing anything manual to keep the Battery charged though.

Hi Derek, your posts in January 2024 pointed me in the direction of the Yuasa 45Ah Battery and how to replace it.

Electric car fire statistics UK

EV fires aren't a common occurrence. According to Honeywell Safety and Productivity Solutions, 239 fires recorded in the UK from July 2022 to June 2023 were linked to EVs.

While this is an 83% increase year on year, it’s important to note the number has increased along with the increasing presence of EVs on our roads. 

Meanwhile, according to Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, some 1898 fires in 2019 were from petrol and diesel vehicles and 54 were from EVs.

Another study by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency found that EVs are 20 times less likely to catch fire than ICE cars.

An additional study by that agency and an American insurer found that just 25 out of 100,000 EVs suffer fire damage.

By comparison, 1530 per 100,000 ICE cars experience fire, and hybrid vehicles suffer a much higher risk of 3475 per 100,000.

Still using solar panels but on one occasion with 4 dark days needed to recharge via mains.

This time of year I have no direct line of sight to the suns rays so to compensate I am using two 100 watt and one 30 watt panel and it just coping.

I'm interested in getting a Yaris as I want a small automatic car but the Battery issues give me pause, as I only do about 1600 miles a year. Is there some way to remedy them entirely via current updates or installing a larger capacity Battery or am I better off looking at another brand entirely?

How often on average do you drive each week and how far?

I drive to work and back on weekdays, which is a 4.6 mile trip one way, so on average I drive 9 miles a day, five times a week.

It's city driving, between 15 and 20 minutes depending on traffic.

To be honest, I love my YC Hybrid, but to be honest, I think you are best just to buy a 100% petrol car and rule out any of these possible worries, whether it is a genuine worry or not.  You will clearly see on this topic in this Forum, there are split views on this.

I drive similar pattern and it's ok. Anyway topping up the Battery with a charger once every few months or longer trip (1h+) once a month is highly encouraged with this style of driving.

It should be okay if that's every day - Regular use is what the car wants. What it hates is being used once or twice a week for a short trip.

However the AygoX might be a better fit for you - It's a lot cheaper, and if you're not really ever hitting fast roads or doing distance, the extra grunt and the higher economy of the Yaris won't really come into it.

Its 12v Battery is also double (!!) the size of the one in the hybrid Yaris and gets charged by a normal variable current alternator rather than a fixed current DC-DC so it should charge faster and survive longer!

I had the Aygo X, along with what's mentioned already, if you don't need a big boot and have "big" rear passengers, this would be ideal for you.

And you can always fold down the seats for more boot space!

I wish Toyota had done that with the Yaris - I would have gladly sacrificed some boot space for more passenger legroom, since if I need more boot I can fold the seats down, but if I need more passenger space I can't fold the passengers down :laugh: 

It does make me miss the sliding rear seats in the Mk2 and Mk1 Yaris. It was only a few inches (oo err) but it made so much difference!

Yea, if you add up both trips it's about 30-40 minutes a day.

I drive mainly in the city but would like something that feels better country roads than my current 70bhp Corsa, in speediness but also general comfort, so if a Yaris is not for me I'd probably get something like a (current, 100bhp) automatic ICE Corsa or Peugeot 208 instead.

Ahh if you're going on country roads and looking for something more peppy the Yaris should be fine. I'd also put in a good word for the Up! GTI :naughty:  That little thing is a proper pocket rocket :laugh: Not super economical by comparison, but not 'bad'.

That said the automatic AygoX is surprisingly good for its BHP, as the CVT will keep the engine in the high torque/power band, but it may get a bit annoying if you don't like engine sounds. (I quite like the 3-cylinder thrum, but I came from diesels so these are quite refined by comparison :laugh: )

I’m reaching out because I need some advice.

I recently purchased a Toyota hybrid with the registration number KP72 CZF, and a co-worker with a similar car has been experiencing frequent depletion of the small 12V Battery due to frequent short trips.

I’m considering replacing the original Yuasa HSB202 Silver 12V Battery (5-Year Guarantee) and connecting a Ring RSC806, 6 Amp Battery Charger and Maintainer to help with battery upkeep.

My main concern is that some users have reported issues starting the car after replacing the 12V battery, even when in Park I am not sure if this is true or not. I’m uncertain whether a Toyota tester is required to “relearn” or notify the system of the new battery, similar to how BMWs need a tester for battery replacement recognition.

Overall, my co-worker is very satisfied with the car, aside from this battery issue. I hope that once I move to Northampton and start commuting to Milton Keynes three days a week (plus one day on weekends), I won’t need to charge the battery too frequently.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I changed my original Battery with the Yuasa and added leads to connect a Battery minder charger and it was a problem free swap, no resetting needed. I seem to remember losing radio stations but it was a year ago 😁

I've since updated to a Yaris Cross, that did moan about keyless entry needing a dealer reset, but cycling on/off a few times reset it.

Thankfully Toyotas don't need stupid Battery codings like BMWs - Just put in the new one and it Just Works.

The factory Battery was a turkish make called Mutly or something like that; If yours has a Yuasa HSB202 (Aka YBX5202) in it, the previous owner was a wise and learned person and has already replaced the sub-par OE Battery with the much better Yuasa alternative and chances are you won't have any 12v problems unless you really never use the car! (If your colleague's still on the original 12v battery, getting the same YBX5202 might help them too...!)

Can anyone help? My Toyota Yaris 2013 starts intermittently. Sometimes it starts straight away but sometimes absolutely nothing. AA said the 12v Battery was low so charged it up it then worked ok for a bit but now nothing again. Strangely replacing the Battery in the electric key seemed to improve things for a day but now gone again. Do I need a new Battery or could it be something else?
