2011 Toyota RAV4 2.2 D-4D Comprehensive Service

Recommended Posts

Hi there. I am the proud owner of a mk3 RAV4 since September 2023. The car has been serviced annually since new but I have little information about the work completed each time, except for invoice for the last service carried out December last year.

The car has done 94,000 miles. My goal is to maintain the vehicle to at least 200,000 miles and preferably beyond.

The last service is marked as an 'interim' service in the service log, but a 'full' service on the garage invoice. Parts replaced include:

Engine Oil

  • Engine Oil
  • Oil Filter
  • Air Filter
  • Fuel Filter
  • Pollen Filter

I am thinking that I want to get as much done on this service as possible, in order to 'reset the clock' on all items so that I can keep track going forwards. Based on review of the service manual, this would include:

  • Replace engine oil and oil filter
  • Inspect coolant
  • Inspect air filter
  • Replace transfer and rear differential oil
  • Inspect drive shaft boots
  • Tighten drive shaft bolts
  • Inspect exhaust pipe and mountings
  • Inspect cooling and heating system
  • Inspect fuel tank cap. fuel lines, connections and vapour control valve
  • Inspect body for corrosion
  • Inspect shift lever
  • Inspect clutch pedal and return spring
  • Inspect brake pedal and parking brake
  • Inspect brake linings and drums
  • Inspect brake pads and discs
  • Replace clutch fluid
  • Replace brake fluid
  • Inspect front and rear suspension
  • Inspect steering wheel and linkages
  • Inspect tyres, lights, Wiper Blades and washer fluid
  • Inspect suspension ball joints and dust covers
  • Replace vaccum pump for brake booster
  • Inspect ancillary drive belt
  • Inspect manual gearbox and front differential oil
  • Inspect charcoal cannister
  • Inspect diesel smoke

I would greatly appreciate any advice on the above list. Is anything missing? Do the glow plugs need inspecting/replacement, for example? Is there anything on that list that looks excessive at this point?

I think the 20 items they inspect shouldn't be taken too seriously it just makes it look like they have done more

Do these cars have EGR and DPF? Both can gunk up if used for short journeys. I don’t think you can inspect DPF though.

"Inspect" items are a tick in the box that cost a fortune and don't give you any assurance.
