PHEV... Will it start after 3.5 weeks?

Been away for a while so I've not touched the car for about 3.5 weeks. Just got back from a long trip.  Tomorrow I've got to go into the office. Nothing majorly important.

Question is, will it start or will the 12V be dead? I'll find out tomorrow. Got the moco loco charged and ready to jump it.

Will let you know.

🤞

I’ve been recovering from an operation since early Nov and can not drive the car for another week or so. I took the precaution of connecting my NOCO 12v Battery charger to the Battery and turning it on every week. During the recent cold spell I was not surprised to find the 12v Battery really needed a charge although the doors opened OK.

It will be interesting to see if you car starts OK, is it garaged as they should make a difference?

Thanks Ernie. I'd have put it on trickle charge if it was in a garage.  It's outdoors and it will be 0C tomorrow early AM. I think it's a 50 50 if it will start.

I don't think the temperature matters that much - it's only electrics that you need to start rather than an engine to crank.

But I agree that it is finely poised. Less than three weeks and I'd expect it to start; more than four weeks and you'd be optimistic / lucky. How interesting ... 😉

Mines outside I have a waterproof external mains socket that I use. I connect a thin mains cable which I feed under the back door, connect up inside and close the door. The door seals shape around the cable and all is fine. The power required is so small that a low power cable works fine.

WE await your switch on, personally I'd not have put it as high as 50:50 but hope it fires up OK for you.

Thanks. I was thinking about the SOC for the 12V Battery. Generally less charge as the temperature drops.

Just started first time! Leaving it running to defrost as it is covered in thick ice.

I think a lot of the problems including mine previously were down to software updates for subsystems that either weren't shutting down or were drawing too much current when the car ignition was off.

Good to hear, was doubtful it would start. What is the 12v capacity.

Had flat Battery twice during pandemic, then the Battery can only be charged to ~70% of its full capacity, but it seems doing ok. I  had 4 weeks holiday on Oct,  and left  my car on the driveway, when I came back, the car started  straightway without problem even though the Battery voltage was less than 12v (was charged to 12.56v on the day before leaving).

Not sure. But it's a tiny Battery.

Took it out on a good run on the way to work and back again, taking a longer route so it should have had 90 minutes of charge to top it up. I probably won't use the car for another week or two now.

My PHEV stood for 5 weeks while we were away in Sept/October.  Left it fully charged.

Never gave it a thought that it wouldn't start when we got back.  It drove away as normal on electric, (no engine start needed).

Good to know that it will stand for 5 weeks.

However, the car will not 'start' (go into Ready mode) with a flat auxiliary Battery irrespective of the state of charge of the traction Battery ... 😉
