Hi all, just noticed that only the nearside reversing light works despite there being a matching lens in the cluster on the offside.

Is that right?

You will probably find the 'matching' offside light is the rear foglight

I'll have look but It has a clear lens?

Yes  - so does our i20, and quite a few other cars., but the reversing light is on the nearside and the offside light is the rear foglight. Makes manufacturing left hand drive and right hand drive easier only having one colour lens.

That's one thing I love about my Mk4 - It has twin rear fogs and one reverse light in the middle!

Very OCD-friendly

OK, thanks all.

Sounds like a similar thing to our old Corolla where we only had one rear fog light.

If you check the non illuminated side there may be a vacant bulb holder like in the pic below, so if you run a cable from the other illuminated side and add a bulb you can light them both up.

We also replaced one of our reversing light bulbs with the type that includes a bleeper as well as the light, which can be handy in warning folk you are about to move when in busy supermarket car parks etc.

In many VW cars the 'extra' foglight is even wired up and has a bulb already in the holder, just turned off in the ECU. With VCDS software & cable it was possible to enable it.
