Since 2015 these have been allowed in the UK.

However, as there are only around 17,000 IQs still registered for use on the road, with a smaller proportion of these in white, and an even smaller proportion of white ones still affected by the paint issue, there is almost certainly insufficient numbers of owners left with the problem to generate sufficient interest and income for the legal fraternity to consider this type of action.

Aside from that, the steps Toyota GB has already taken (it would be the importer not the manufacturer targeted by the action), would be considered to have been sufficient in discharging their responsibilities.

...which makes you wonder, if the numbers are so small, why Toyota doesn't use it as an opportunity for good publicity and offer to put it right. Unless of course there are more owners than you think? Am I right in thinking this paint problem affected more models than just the iQ?

As for the assertion in parenthesis in your final paragraph, as the vehicles were sold under the Toyota Badge, as a lawyer I might want to pursue Toyota for recompense, too. Big company, big name, big pockets, more to lose in bad publicity. Anyway - sadly, it won't happen.

They did, but every opportunity has a cut off point - in this case 10 years from first registration.

You live in the REAL world, don't you? What's it like?

Keep it friendly guys. We live now and talking about something based on warranty given in 2009. They already streched up warranty on this to 10 years. I agree they also should have some coulance or 50/50 period..

The warranty at Toyota is always like a switch its on.. of completely off.
If there is something in between, it is coming from the dealer itself.

Not a warranty, the UK 10 year offering was goodwill on a case by case basis.

You´re right, its more a MAYBE possibility as the real warranty is expired.

It sucks but it's unreasonable to expect them to hold out forever for repairing it; Even the 1.33 engine with its known weak cylinder rings was only repaired on good will up to a certain point.

Imagine if you did some work for a customer and their successor came back after 15 years and demanded you repair some fault that happened with it?

You're not comparing eggs with eggs, are you? It's a false argument. Think about it.

I'm not going to prolong the debate from my side. We have differing opinions. I respect the alternative view, but I don't agree with it. My final post on this thread!

So I purchased the vehicle in 2019, and only noticed the fault in 2020/21 when paint started peeling off my bonnet.

Have you decided what you will do?

Hopefully you'll get it resolved...

Group Litigation as it is known in England and Wales has been available for 20ish years. Introduced in the Civil Procedure Rules in 2000

Hi PCM- no, still haven't decided what to do. At this rate, I might wait for the whole side to flake off and then get it repainted. Might save a bit of money haha. I am joking...
I'll look around for quotes at some point, but to be honest, its not a priority at the moment. And then there is the issue, if I splurge on having that side repainted, another area of the car is likely to start flaking. I don't know. To have the whole car repainted is just too expensive.
