The frozen windscreen 18p hack to clear icy windows

Maybe I am weird (almost certainly in fact) but I do quite enjoy scraping the ice off the car if I need to.

I never use any de-icer because it destroys rubber.

Maybe a bit peculiar. Most of us rather not waste any time in the cold. With newer cars preheat option, it's good. Though mine doesn't have preheat, so were scraping recently.

When I had to drive a car with an iced windscreen that was only half the problem.  The inside would mist and potentially freeze too.

60 years ago in Canada (-25) it was usual to see cars with the stuck on plastic panels on front and side not just rear windows.

Thinking of deicing, I remember fitting a rear window electric deicing panel on my Triumph.

Also on electric panels,  can you still get that metallic paint to repair breaks in the matrix?

I ceased putting my car in the garage, because my ex-VW Caravelle was too big.  Since then, the garage has become an extension of the shed to hold all the clobber I have accumulated over the years.  But another reason is that , on humid days, the car tends to “sweat” whilst in a closed garage.  I did have a carport between garage and house, but removed this when we had caravans/motorhomes because of the height.  Might have another carport fitted, -it does prevent icing up and allows the car to “breathe” (it gets quite breezy down the side of the house) - but not in a hurry to do it.

I do find that weirdly satisfying too; The silicone coating on my windscreen stops the ice sticking too hard to the windscreen so it scrapes off quite easily and in one pass - I can usually use the rubber scraper instead of the hard plastic edge to reduce the risk of scratching the windscreen.

Yes - silver conductive paint. I got mine from Amazon. The previous owner of my car had scratched the rear window. This repaired it perfectly.

Our old Corolla sits on the drive and I just use an old watering can with a kettle full of hot (mixed with cold) water. Put enough on (trickle it on) to thoroughly warm the glass and your away in a minute or so.

The plastic bag trick... well I can imagine the bag suddenly freezing to the glass and ripping. It needs only a [point contact of frozen-ness to do that.
