I’m just about starting to get fond of the one I have, so to avoid any future relationship issues I’ve got to change now 😍🤣.

Be interesting to see what the differences are; I know the new ones get a different dash to the original Mk4s...

Not the i30, not the updated software. Toyota are very coy on when the updated version will be available in Ireland. I’m guessing maybe July. I30 will only be available in the Premium spec and in Yaris sports model . Probably the same for the Yaris Cross.

If they're like my dealer they probably genuinely have no clue it's even coming

I understand. I found I was getting fond of the Good Lady, and now it's too late to px her for two younger models. Also, think of all the training I would need to re-do 😁

Not really pushed about the i30, because the present Mark4 is no slouch and lively enough for an “oul boy” like me. I will probably be changing again in a year or two so we will see what is available, and teething problems will be ironed out by then 👏👍

Yes by now you have most of the teething problems ironed out, but it’s always a work in progress 😂

Not a clue and my sales lady who is a real petrol head can’t find out, what she doesn’t know about cars is not worth knowing.😁

According to Devon Agyo's post, from the equivalent of the excel trim onwards have the new dash 12.3" and 10.5" infotainment.

At my age, I can barely handle the one Lady in my life. No way would I be able to manage two

I'm finding the GR Sport is losing grip under acceleration far more than my Gen. 3 did in these colder conditions. I'm not even getting beyond the word "ECO" on the power meter when this happens, so the Gen. 4 either has way more torque lower down and is breaking away more easily, or the wider tyres on the 18" rims have poorer adhesion in wet/slippery conditions (I roll on the throttle; I don't jab it, either).

That said, even more power/torque wouldn't help. I'm more than happy with the performance now.

I'm debating lowering tyre pressures slightly. They are at 32/30 front/rear right now (I set them correctly when the OAT was +18 deg. C about 6 weeks ago). Book says 32/29 front/rear.

My dealer 2 weeks ago knew nothing about this I’m very interested in ordering an excel but think I better wait ?

The books have not open to order the updated version yet, it opens later this month, don't know when. Use a broker like carwow to get a good discount or as a point of negotiation.

The tyre sizes matters here.
The lower the profile is the less grip you have in slippery conditions and you need all season or winter tyres. Where if the car have 17 or 16 inch tyre sets you may be just fine with your stock tyres. Tyre grip comes from flexing the rubber and biting into the surfaces, in low profile set ups tyre walls are so thin that there is very little flex and this is what matters for grip on start up.

That surprises me a bit.

We intended to order ours in late September and the dealer said we would get it in December. That was very quick based on other experiences we had been having (Skoda were quoting 42 weeks for a Fabia Auto) but since we did not actually want a new car until March 24 (the Fabia will be 6 years old in April) we said we would order either later in the year or in January. Not wanting to risk a sale the salesman went to to see his boss who said that we could order there and then (we ordered 2 days later) and get delivery in March with the price/finance guaranteed which is what we did having got everything in writing (knowing what a load of liars cars salesmen can be).

Yesterday got a phone call from the dealer telling us the build date had been pushed back to January but we would still get the car in March.

Can only presume that the dealer found your exact spec available on the system with a January delivery.

Our existing Fabia has 215 45 tyres and in snowy conditions they are pretty useless despite having good tread. I did buy a used set of winters (for £70 for 4) but recent winters have not been bad enough to need them.

Hopefully the Yaris on 195 55 tyres will be better, the Note had that size and it was fine.

It came with colour conditions, I could only choose from Black, Silver, or Grey. Silver is the colour of choice, I’ve had Black Toyota’s, it’s the nicest colour of the lot when polished and shined up, but very easy to see dirt on it. I don’t like the Toyota Grey, so as Silver is the colour of the car I have and dirt is not easily seen on it that’s the one I choose.

The only drawback to the 18" is it is forbidden to fit snow chains. You can fit them to the smaller wheels, but not the 18" (Yaris).

That's weird... is it because they're too wide and the chains will rub on the arches or something??

Could probably still use snow socks if that's the case.

I used to keep a spray of traction fluid in the car that you could spray on the tyres and ground to give temporary traction - It was great for getting you moving if you were stuck, but the effect didn't last long.
