For anyone using public charging infrastructure the cost per mile is already significantly more than both petrol and diesel.

Very true. I couldn't believe it when I saw it on the charger recently. How does that work!

What I don't get is why electricity prices are still so high - Originally it was due to Russia cutting off gas supplies and making the cost of gas skyrocket, but surely everyones secured alternative supplies now or sorted out alternatives (I bet France are feeling real smug now, being the only country that put in the investment and are now able to export so much power from all their nuclear plants!! ) so why hasn't it shown any signs of coming down??

They're fast to go up, slow to come down. I wished I had put solar on the roof. May still have time but I need to clear out the attic from all the crap.

This is a bit shocking - I don't think a single charger was less than 70p/kWh

I'd kinda expect that for e.g. a 300kW charger, but most of these were only 50kW!!

Home charging definitely still a must for any prospective EV owner!!

One big point they missed out is how many of those chargers accepted contactless payment or required Yet Another App to be installed...

It's turning into a big problem. There was a piece in the independent or guardian recently that described how hard it was to set up an account so you could charge and how you had to put money into the the account on a regular basis. W T Actual F!

This is not going to help with EV adoption.

If for arguments sake you could average 45mpg on petrol, 70p/kWh (say a 12 month average of 3 miles/kWh) would equate to a petrol cost of £2.30 per Litre. (Currently £1.37) or a 12 month average of 3.5 m/kWH would equate to petrol at £2.14 per Litre. Hope my math is correct.

The other issue with home chargers is that unless you have a three phase electricity supply (very unlikely), you are limited to about 7.3 kWh which is fine for the PHEV's 18 kWh traction Battery but becomes more of an issue for many BEV's 70kWh + batteries.

12hrs at 7.4kW? That's 89kWhrs. Unlikely also to return home on zero charge every day in terms of the majority of folk?

My wall box is 7.4kW. I think it will be fine.

My point was really referring to the cheap overnight rates (9p/kWh) where you get 4 hours at that rate, or 6 hours if you have a specific wall box.

Apols. Thought it was a reference to not getting enough charge in time without having higher than a 7.4kW wall box.  I imagine if there's demand and there's still energy competition then may be better deals will emerge as peak and low demand times also shift around a little?
