Which Verso (Petrol or Diesel)?

Recommended Posts

Firstly, I am new to the forum. and in need of a 7 seater as family is getting bigger. Having previously owner german cars, I'm sick and tired of the problems that come with these so decided it would only be Jap cars going forward. Gonna keep it short, which of the engines are more reliable - not sure I'd want the diesel, believe this is a BMW engine? Also from the 1.6 and 1.8 petrol which would be the better option? Are there any common problems to look out for and would it be safe to look at the higher milage examples?

Thanks in advance.

It's not worth getting a diesel now unless you do mega miles - The improved fuel economy will be greatly countered by all the charges they will attract as more cities introduce and widen their 'low emissions zones', and then start to move the goal posts as to what's compliant.

My dad has a 1.8 petrol Verso automatic and gets around 35-40mpg out of generally. It has a CVT gearbox and does well when hauling e.g. 4 adults and 2 children and gear and has, touch wood, been very reliable so far. The only thing that's failed on it so far has been the washer jet pump, and that was fixed by whacking it with a mallet a few times

On a slight tangent, my brother has a BMW 2-series 7-seater MPV and it is very swish - Full leather seats, opening sunroof, many gadgets, even AWD - It absolutely blows the Verso out of the water in terms of fit and finish, comfort, tech, pretty much everything TBH, but it has a DSG and is a diesel and has cost him a lot more in maintenance than the Verso so far! It also somehow gets worse mpg than the Verso despite being diesel, but I think that may just be my brother's driving style which is nothing like mine at all nope :whistling1:
