2017 2wd Rav4 Towing Capacity

Finding this out has been so confusing so I am asking the knowledgeable forum members here for their help?

I have a 2017 Rav4 2wd 2ltr. Diesel. The Toyota Handbook online states a towed maximum braked weight of only 800kg!

Searching google displays anything from 800kg to 2000kg.

I have already purchased a caravan weighing 1339kg with a payload of 155kg,

I purchased this after the dealer checking my registration number, using their specific vehicle to caravan comparison site and stating that this vehicle was good for up to 2000kg.

I have yet to collect the caravan due to the weather conditions we have at the moment but now have some doubts as to the suitable of this combination..

NEVER EVER rely on what a dealer tells you. Half the time they don’t know what they are looking for and will not tell you anything g that risks losing the sale. You need to check the VIN plate (not VIN number) on the car which will have your specific vehicle legal weights.

The 2017 brochure states:

so you are good for 2000 kg.

The petrol was limited to 1500 kg, while the hybrid 4.4 was 800 kg in FWD form and 1650 kg as an AWD. (You were looking at the wrong handbook or the wrong section in the handbook!)

Thank you so much philip42h. That is a load off my mind. Just need the snow to clear so I can go and collect the caravan. We have booked for 3 days over the New Year to try it out so fingers are crossed for the roads to remain clear near Jedburgh.  I maybe should have chosen the AWD version after all! Ken

Ps: this is our 3rd Rav4. Then after the first 2 we had a short time with a Range Rover Evoque.
