Windows Not Clearing Glass

Recommended Posts

Posted

I bought my C-hr only last week and am having the same problem, I clean windows before setting off but as soon as it rains the problem starts again, rain on the outside not clearing, requiring me to wind the window down at road junctions and roundabouts - this is a problem that is a potential hazzard in my opinion.  Yes I have also tried pressing the window as it rises but it does not remove rain water on the outside of the window

Split way from a 16 year old topic and moved to the C-HR forum.

That’s normal.
Just make sure your hvac settings are correct for winter drive and you need to allow extra time for the windows to clear from outside as well as from inside. When you put windows down you can try to wait 10 seconds beforehand put them up and this may help you clear the water from outside better.
You did well to lower the window down to have better and clearer view. 👍

I would never expect the side windows to always be clear of rain.  If enough rain is present at junctions to cause visibility issues, I always wind down the windows.  It all depends on how fast you are going as to whether side windows clear themselves.  Trotting around low speeds they are likely to remain covered in rain, but a good run on the Motorway then the windows should clear.

The best way to help in that situation is to apply some Rain X to help the water sheet away from the surface.  My Prius has rain repellant side windows which helps, but I still need to wind them down sometimes to aid visibility.

When was your cabin filter last changed?

ignore the stamps in the handbook for servicing, that just means somebody paid for a service. Often filters like that can be left to work beyond their 12 month lifespan.

a clogged old one will cause steaming / fogging of the windows. Especially this time of year.

you might be interested in trying a product called Rainex you can get at Halfords?  It’s rain repellent and the idea is it makes the surface so smooth rain can’t cling, it runs straight off. Just squirt some on a rag and rub it in when it’s dry. Job done 🙂

I use rainex on my side windows and rear screen to good effect but I don’t apply it to the front screen as the wipers do what they are designed for.
