2021 C-HR Cruise control not working.

Recommended Posts

Since buying my car in April this year, I have frequently used the cruise control.  However, it has recently stopped working.  Thinking it may be intermittent, or my not working it properly, I consulted the handbook again to ensure that I operated it correctly, but it isn’t working.  Suppose I’ll have to book it in for a check.

Is the front Toyota Badge clean? I had a similar problem with my 2020 Dynamic and it turned out to be dirt on the front Badge causing the problem. All I did was clean everything and it worked fine.

Might be something as simple as this.

Must admit I didn’t think of that, Bob.   I presume, by front Badge, you are referring to a front sensor/camera that needs cleaning.  My previous cars with cruise control did not rely on such sensors/cameras as the speed was controlled by electronics linked to the transmission system. Perhaps, the C-HR having adaptive cruise control has an obviously different system that relies on a sensor/camera under all conditions.   I will clean the Badge and try the control out when I get on a suitable road.

Clean both the T Badge on the grill.
and

the windscreen cameras need to be clear and condensation free

Condensation?  Doesn’t that usually occur inside a vehicle? That camera, as far as I know, is close-coupled to the windscreen, so I wouldn’t expect it to suffer condensation, and access to it must be nigh on impossible.   Externally, surely the camera is positioned within the sweep of one of the wipers - windscreens collect a lot of gunge during a journey in dirty weather.

There are a number of threads here dealing with internal condensation in the forward camera area

When Toyota Safety Sense was first introduced, some cars did suffer from internal condensation which affected the camera, and the relevant safety program. Toyota did introduce a heater element in the camera housing to reduce occurrences.

Other makes can have similar issues.

Yes. The front Badge on the grille. Also, as @Paul john mentions, it may be worth cleaning the windscreen by the camera. In my case, it was a dirty Toyota Badge

I was quite impressed by that when I read it in the repair manual.  Quite a lot of thought goes into these things

Have given the front Badge a good clean as suggested although it didn’t appear to be dirty, and Presto, the cruise control worked again.  Thanks for the tip. 😀

Had this myself where the front collision system stopped working with the error clean front sensor. It really didn't appear dirty, and not much muck came off, but cleaning sorted it. Must be really sensitive
