The other night came to start it and it would not start at all so switched off tried again thyis timing depressing acceklerator and it started but fuel light was on and had quarter tank of fuel switched off and started 5 mins later and all was ok what could of caused problem?

It would appear that the problem is most likely caused by a loose or damaged fuel pump/sending unit wiring harness. This would cause intermittent or poor operation of the fuel pump (requiring the throttle to be opened more to start the car), and erratic fuel gauge readings).
