I had an unfortunate incident last night where a range rover hit me on a roundabout just as I was exiting it. Drivers excuse was a pillar blind spot, however I suspect he was going a bit quick on approach to the roundabout considering that I was nearly all the way across before he hit me. The wheel arch and bumper have taken the full force of the impact, I'm feeling okay at the moment physically. Just got the inconvience of having to wait for repairs now.

Hopefully nothing is very bent underneath and you will just need a new bumper. Could have been worse.

yeah I hope so, I was able to drive away from the scene without any issues once we swapped details.

Hi Isobel,

I'm sorry to hear about your accident but thank goodness that you are OK.

I have to say that I've noticed over the past few years that many cars entering a roundabout don't actually stop, they creep out and sometimes you have to basically drive around the front of them to make an exit.  The same thing happens at junctions where some drivers don't stop or give way, they tend to try and force you into letting them out by sticking the bonnet out and slowly edging out.

I'm not saying that I see this every day but it seems to be getting more and more common....Then again it might just be me that's getting old and curmudgeonly!!!! 😉

Hopefully it's just a new bumper (I say "just" but that's an understatement!) and you can use your car in the meantime until it's good as new again.

Take care, Isobel and all the very best.

Sorry to hear about your accident, glad to hear you are ok, which is the main thing. Hope you get it repaired ok, agree about roundabout etiquette poor round our way as well.

The main thing is it's only the car that's got damaged

I have noticed since covid started driving standards have dropped

No one seems to care any more before I retired a few months ago it was like driving to work was more like a race than anything else

This local roundabout is always a dodgy one, I was surprised I have not been hit before now.

Ack, glad you're okay Wiz!

Damned Range Rovers! Not content with being flipped over by a GR Yaris, now they're after Aygos??

I know from multiple experience that once you get past the crumple zones the back of small Toyotas is extremely solid

Hopefully it'll be repaired quickly and you get a fun courtesy car at the offender's expense in the mean time  :naughty:

I've released the dash cam footage on my youtube channel as Tesco insurance have confirmed I wasn't at fault, so there is no need to hold it back now if anyone is interested in seeing how it really happened.

Nice turn of phrase Isobel  I can imagine myself saying exactly the same thing.

.1/ Glad you weren't injured.

2/Glad you've been confirmed as not at fault & hope you get a speedy resolution, I imagine it would have been extremely difficult to find you at fault looking at that video.

3/ Thank god for dashcams

Yikes, that's quite a solid knock to spin the car round like that!

It's a good thing Toyota are beefing up the backs of the newer cars so much!

Soooo know what your courtesy car will be yet...? :naughty:

Blimey Isobel,

That was more than an "unfortunate accident" as you initially posted....That was more of a mugging!!!

Thank goodness that you are OK after that and I'm not surprised that your insurance company laid no blame at your door......To be fair the idiot that hit you can't have any defence.....As Phil ( @Shared ) said, Thank God for dashcams!!

I really hope that you get this sorted quickly, Isobel as I know how much you love your cars ( I still remember Rosie) and once your little fella/girl is repaired you'll be back having fun in him/her.....I don't know why but mine has always been "My little fella", or "Brewster" (from Irn Bru).....No idea why an orange, metallic, 3 door, hunk of metal, Toyota is part of the family....But he just is!!!😄

Anyway all the best, have a lovely Christmas and a repaired little pal new year.

Take care

P.S. Don't ever apologise about the language....To be fair I thought that you were quite reserved! 😊

Yeah Tesco tbh were really quick, but unfortunately I've got poor Celia taped up until she goes in for an assessment at a local garage they told me to use, apparently it is Toyota approved. She can't go in until next Tuesday, so I'm just doing short essential trips to the supermarket.

I have to say Adrian Flux were pretty good there - They had the assigned repair place get me in a courtesy car and took mine away 4 days (Including a weekend, so 2 'business days')) after I got rear-ended; It would have been the next day, but I said I'd wait 'til Monday so I could get a Mk4 Yaris rather than one of the manual Aygos they had available for the Friday

I don't think any of my previous insurers have gotten me back out so quickly!

I always have a roll of Duct Tape in my emergency bag of tricks in the boot for such instances.  If the damage is not too bad, but the car has bits flapping and hanging off, without duct tape at hand, you'd probably not be able to drive it away......and I'll never own a car without a Dashcam fitted front and rear.  It's the first thing I get installed 👍

That reminds me, I need to get another roll; I usually keep one in the boot but I noticed recently it's not there!

I was able to drive away despite the wheel arch hanging off, but it was only a five minute drive away.

Aye, the old mantra, keep duct tape for if it moves and shouldn't.

And WD 40 for when it doesn't move and should.

It was a bit bulky in my stylish James Dean jacket though, I am still puzzled by my rebellion.
