No passenger rear seat light

Earlier in the week, I fitted child seats for my grandchildren in the rear of my 2023 Yaris Excel. Yesterday evening at 6pm I found it impossible to safely put my grandchildren into the seats without first fetching a torch. Why, because Toyota seem to have decided that a rear seat passenger light is a luxury that is no longer needed.  Come on Toyota the fitting holes are there in the roof lining, so why no light? Just seems really mean.

The Club is independent from Toyota, and Toyota don't visit the Club. To query this with Toyota, you need to speak to them .....

Yes, it is annoying and I (or my passengers) miss some light in the back, especially when normal sized people try and find the seat belt slots in the dark.

It's one of the outstanding mods to be done along with rear lights coming on with the front DRL; easy-ish to do but too wet and/or cold to be removing panels and soldering on the drive at the moment.  I'll document it when I do the mods.

Ordered the vintage looking light below. About 4.5" long. I'll change the bulb for LED festoon to match the front.

I've got a panoramic roof, so no cutouts for internal lights.  However there is a very handy blanking plate covering the wiring for the roof sharkfin antenna and this will mount on it nicely.  I've looked and it will be possible to run wires from the front light easily enough as the headlining along the side of the glass roof only attaches with velco. Wiring will have to be kept clear of the airbag, but there is other wiring there already and the one feed wire will be clipped to these.

Near the end of this article Anchorman shows the rear light he installed. It can from a VW.  There was similar article around the same time that used a black version. Just cannot find it.

Oh I think Toyota have a social media scout that reads the forums!   I use it as a figure of speech for such things.  I found a very nice little led map reading light from a Seat that matched the plastic in the car and fitted that over the back seat.  It is wired into the front map lights to come on with the switch or the doors.

Anchorman, if you are referring to me then sorry to disappoint you. I am just a humble Yaris Cross owner who enjoys your prose and experiments. I also have a good memory 🤪

I didn’t realise you’d linked my post but no I wasn’t referring specifically to you.  👍
