Screenwash - blown fuse??

Uhh... I know this is something the Gen.4 seems to be good at, and I'm not sure I have done it on mine.

Does anything else stop working if you blow the fuse for the screen washer?

While it has been quite cold the past few nights and the water did freeze, today it was +7 and still it didn't work. I'm doubting it was still a solid block of ice in the bottle (the sun does shine on the car in the daytime). I'm starting to think I may have blown the fuse (even though my tests to see if it would work were extremely quick - I didn't sit there holding the washer - I blipped it once).

I know to add anti-freeze. I just need to run the bottle down a bit to do that, but I can't as it isn't apparently working now.

EDIT: Yes - it's blown.

My YC front washer stopped but rear washer and motor all worked. Front fuse blown.

QED

Wrong.

The bottle appeared to have fluid in but I topped up anyway.

Front washers now worked.

My tentative conclusions are the motor has a cutoff if there is no fluid.

The washer bottle capacity is much smaller than the 10lts I have been used to.

The obvious cause is most likely.

Carry a spare bottle of fluid.

I posted warnings on the fb group to remind owners that the bazaar phenomenon of it going cold was a distinct possibility at this time of year and that the fuse blowing wasn’t a function of sub standard parts and there to protect the very delicate modern wiring.  The response is typically, I’ve been driving since 1926 and never blown a fuse so it makes me just as cynical.  Personally, I tend to predict that sub zero temperatures come every year and make sure I’ve topped up with a strong mix (at least 50%) in anticipation and so far it’s paid off.  I use 50/50 all year round because those pesky insects show up every year too.   Every supermarket stocks it by the door for less than a third of a packet of !Removed!.

No snowflakes here, but lots of ice and snow. 😂

The weather beat me to putting anti-freeze in. It's only the second time I filled the washer bottle!! The rate the Gen.3 went through water made me very light on using it, and with the Gen.4 it is hardly using anything to spray the windshield! 😂

I went from a one pint washer bag (pint was (generous) in a Ford Anglia to 10 ltr tank in a SAAB99.

The former had to be refilled when I refuelled, or more often.

You live in Derbyshire where we don’t normally get winter so I can see how it caught you out.  The older I get the more irritable and facetious I become 😉.  I’ve had 65 goes at predicting winter.  Leaves dropping off trees is a good clue.

Noooooo...  I hope you mean screenwash!  Antifreeze will destroy your paintwork.

My screen washers froze the other other night coming through the mountains ❄️ Luckily I met hardly any oncoming traffic, so very little need to use the wipers.

Keep some to hand - The Mk4's washer bottle is tiny! Twice now I've run it dry thinking I had enough. I've never done that in any of my previous cars!
