SRS airbag module location

Following a collision which deployed the drivers curtain airbag and drivers seat belt pretensioner, I have had these replaced with new parts. I still have the airbag sign on the dash, and have been told that the airbag/srs module needs the crash data cleared/reset.

Where is this module located in the car so that I can remove it and send it off to a specialist?

I doubt that will be necessary. I'd expect it can be reset with an appropriate service tool plugged into the car. Possibly not one of the DIY ones in which case it might need a dealer's computer to do it.

@flash22 or @anchorman or others might know.

It’s better to take the whole car as the modules are linked.

Thanks all. Anyone able to recommend an independent place in the London/Essex area?

Not many places will touch the 4th gen yaris SRS ecu's there are the likes of Revtronics and Motortronics, otherwise you need to order a new one from the main stealer

be aware if it's a registered write-off/salvage, any warrantee is void. You may also need to reset the DCM/SOS system

Can't a main dealer reset them?

No, it's way beyond most dealer tech's abilities, plus they don't get involved with crash repairs

TBH It's also a liability issue, hence why they only quote and supply new parts, CYA

Most of those modules have no official reset procedure - They're supposed to be replaced after use.

Unofficially, specialists can crack it open and clip onto the memory chip to re-write it to make it think nothing's happened.

The mk4 is a bit more complex the airbag ecu uses an MCU and Flash memory some use encrypted data and others lock the programming functions

it takes a while for the aftermarket to catch up and find work arounds
