Hello all. I can't  seem to connect my ipod to my media system.  It connected easily with my previous Toyotas, Prius ans two Rav4s but I'm stuck to make it work in my new Corolla TS. I plug in the Apple connector to the usb port in the  arm  rest  and it beeps and charges but the ipod does not appear in the devces list in the sound part of th media system.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Russ

I think your problem is that you're using the wrong USB port, only the one on the dashboard (below and to the left of the heating controls) works for a data connection.

Thanks Don.  I did try this port but it didn't  seem to  work.  I need to try again. It sounds (oops a pun....) like the other parts just charge....

More effort needed at my end. Handbook  is a bit thin on this. Worst part of it is the terrible index at the back!

Don makes me think - yet again!  If I do get the ipod to work in the data port, I won't  be able to run the Motorola  MA1 I'm thinking of buying since I have assumed they both need this same (only) data port.

Or (!) have I  got this wrong again.  Could I run the MA1 through a normal usb port and run the ipod through the data port Don refers to.

Or (!) can the data port be split to provide connections for both!

Phew and its only  early Sunday morning!

IPod touch is what Apple calls obsolete, If I am not mistaken, and could be unsupported by the latest Toyota multi media software. I used to have one, and loved certain features. I lost it on a train.

Having a mini USB hub, say 2 or 3 ports, may solve your multi input problem.

Thanks.  My ipod worked ok with my 52 reg Rav 4 hybrid  so  do have hopes.

Interesting point about splitting the data port to run both.  Will this work?

Sorry folks.  I mentioned my three year old Rav4 hybrid which had one back multimedia with  buttons.

Apparently not, the system doesn't accept more than one device connected by USB at a time.

I haven't tried it myself, but there are discussions elsewhere on this forum where others have.

If the other device you want to connect is a Motorola MA1 it sounds like you intend to use Android Auto wirelessly. In this case, why not transfer the music files to your phone and play them from there? I do this (AAWireless rather than MA1, but same thing) and it's working very nicely.

Thanks again Don.  But the system surely accepts more than one usb connection as there are a few. Perhaps it's this data one that only accepts/powers one at a time?

I see there are dongle splitters - eg one USBA male to two USB female -  on Amazon.  Do you think such splitter would fail to power two data devices?

Yes, you can split the power from one of the USB sockets (apparently they're all rated at 5V 3A in the MY23 cars), but all of them apart from the 'data' one only supply power.

The 'data' socket won't work (for a data connection, power will still be there) with two data devices connected at once. Apparently the media screen doesn't show the USB option at all.

Thanks again Don.  Looks like I'm stuck on the ipod problem.  At present, I can't even get it to work on its own from the data port.

What do you think about running a Motorola MA1 from another socket in the arm rest?  I'm sure I've seen this done elsewher either on here or on Amazon's  question boxes on the MA1 page.

If that could be done it would allow further exploration of the ipod/data port problem.

All a bit irritating really since my recent Rav4 ran the pod beautifully.  Grrrr.
