Wiring problem.

I have a 2014 Yaris Hybrid. Last week the horn went off in the middle of the night and the only way I could stop it sounding was to either remove the fuse or disconnect the auxiliary Battery. The same thing happened with the headlamps. The Toyota dealers said this was a known problem caused by washer water running down the wiring harness and coroding the ICU board. They said it would cost £5400 to fix as it would cost over £3000 for a new board and harness. Anyone know of a cheaper fix for this problem?

I would be taking it out and having a go at repairing it.

Smart cars suffer from the same problem with astronomical prices from Mercedes for repair but normally it is something your average TV repair man can sort out.

If it is a common problem then Shirley there must be how-tos on the Internet somewhere.

Hi Terry, the cost of dealer replacement seems prohibitive, are you able to change the ECU yourself and it will need to be programmed.

It's possible that the wiring harness isn't damaged so it may just be the corrosion on the ECU that is the problem.. There are videos on changing the ECU but only you can decide if you wish to go down this route.

Thanks for that. Do you know if salvage ECU might be available?

Do a search for 'ECU repairs near me' , some will test it free of charge or repair it nowhere near the cost of Toyota.

Had a similar problem with my Bm , the windscreen seal failed and water got in the ecu  and car wouldn't start. Got it repaired and told me to cover the ecu in a plastic bag and tape it up just incase it failed again.
