Hello all, can anyone tell me please, on the Design and Excel trim, can the automatic folding wing mirrors be be turned off? So they just stay out in normal position all the time? Thanks in advance for any information, Mark

Yes, on my Corolla Design its a three position rocker switch with In, Auto, and Out being the three settings. Same on our C-HR Excel too.

Many thanks for the info Nick (I might get a Design or Excel, when i trade my Auris in, next May it will be, but I find auto folding wing mirrows immensly annoying, don't know why just do, Wife had them on a NIssan Juke, they just really got on my wazz.

I don't mind them in theory, but the driver's side mirror on my Corolla has an annoying habit of making a strange groaning sound as it folds out. I've had it apart and lubed the mechanism, the noise goes away but comes back after a couple of months.

Car wash with Snow Foam pre wash  and you will not have problems plus the black non painted plastics will look always like new.

You are welcome.
Here what I use and does the job for me , it does not loosen the dirt as much as tfr does but keeps everything look like new and smells very nice.

I think they are a good idea but they don't help me when I park the car in the garage. For that they'd need some kind of proximity sensor so they folded as I drove the car in 😞

These and auto parking brake plus anything additional that has a motor actuator run on 12v when car is off only adds to the Battery drain issue.
Just deactivate them all and only use when necessary, turn on while car is still in ready mode to prevent any Battery draining, for example park the car at home on level ground, no need parking brake or to fold the mirror, turn off the car and lock it , no Battery drain. Go to shopping, stop at car park, engage parking brake , fold mirrors and switch off the car, lock and go and again no 12v battery power used after initial switch off.

It's a feature I would always want now (auto folding)

Due to the 'normal' sized parking bays in car parks, when a 'juggernaut' SUV parks next to you it's difficult to get past with the mirrors sticking out. I appreciate I could manually retract them but so much easier being automatic in my opinion.

I had the annoying noise with the mirrors, just sprayed silicone into the gap and they’ve been quiet ever since.

I've done that a few times now, works for a bit but after a while the noise comes back again.

I've also tried lithium grease on the mechanism inside the mirror housing. Once again, it was quiet for a month or so then became noisy again.

Was thinking of visiting the Yorkshire dales at some point, perhaps this summer. Let's book a date to swap with my manual car mirrors, no auto folding ever for yours?

I don’t like using grease because any dirt sticks to it and then acts like sandpaper.
