Questions about the rav4 PHEV ( new model )

Hi there,

I recently became an owner of the PHEV version of the rav 4 with the slightly upgraded interior ( fully digital dashboard etc )

First of all, im not native english so sorry if my english is not the best.

The car drives realy good, i am verry pleased with this car, though a few things are "bothering" me

1: It seens to be unable to open the trunk without the car being unlocked? If i press the trunk button on the key, the car wil give like a beeping sound but nothing happens, once i unlocked the car the trunk goes open, is there a way to change that?

2: If i start my car i always have to consent about the privacy with online useage. I already gave permissions dozens of time, but each time my car starts again, it will ask the permissions again.

So if anyone know how i can adjust both examples, thanks a lot for sharing with me !

Kind regards

I'm afraid the answer to point 1 is no. That's the way it works and it can't be user programmed. To be honest, you soon get used to two button presses rather than one.

Point 2, I don't have the new system (but my wife does on the Yaris). There are solutions posted in other threads but I think it comes down to linking, or relinking your multimedia unit with the app.

Point 2 is definitely solvable and seems to be a common issue. As nlee says it's something fixable by registering or linking the multimedia system.

Point 1. On the fob you have to press car unlock before pressing boot open. However, a single long press of the rubber boot open button on the car boot itself opens the boot even when locked.

There are two parts to the exterior boot switch the left hand side, smooth, which opens the boot and unlocks the car as @Nick72 says above and the right hand side, dimple, which locks the car. So unlocking and locking can be done just using the exterior boot switch.

Good point Ernie. That additional dimple button to lock the car is something I use a lot. I didn't know there were 2 buttons for several months. And it took me nearly a year to realise the boot open button inside the car only works if you long press it! And I think you may need to be in Park but not 100%.

Its silly not? If you press the rubber on the trunk it will open the trunk while its locked, but not on the key? Makes no sence. It rather seens like a design flaw.

My mate drives a BMW, he can open the trunk with he's key while the cqr is locked.

A lot of the time I initially felt the logic did not make sense on several things on the car. However, I did in the end, realised that there's often good logical reason for them. In the case of the fob I think it is so that you don't accidentally press a single button to both unlock the car and open the boot with the latter being a hazard because you may not be close enough nor know what or who is next to the opening boot. If you have to unlock then press and hold the boot unlock on the fob it is much less likely to accidentally occur.

Whereas just pressing the button on the rear of the car unlocks and opens the boot because it's safe to do so, because you are physically there right in front of it to watch for any issues during opening.

Or this is probably something like the Toyota logic. I'm guessing now.
