Battery check

Good day all. Our fuel consumption is down from 53 ish to 49/50 - and becasue of the cold weather as menyioned in previous responses - thank you.

As our model is 2010  and bought only recently, we have no idea of the hybrid Battery status - or the cost if it needs replacing. I know it's costly.

My question is - is it possible for a local garage to check the health of the Battery - as one can with an iPhone?

Many thanks.

Seasons greetings to all who celebrate.

Alan

Hi,

there are a couple of posts already about hybrid Battery cost and replacement. Reconditioning starts from as little as £600 to around £1500, new Battery from Toyota around £2000.
Any garage or mechanics with suitable diagnostic tools can run a Battery check, however you can book the car in Toyota dealer for health check , cost around £50 on its own or free when booked with service.
You can also do your own diagnostic, you need obd 2 adapter and phone app.  Although these aren’t as accurate and easily can show a stupid numbers these apps can give information about each cell voltage, deviations and resistance. These 3 variables can show if battery is ok condition. Suitable apps are dr. Prius on iOS and android  and  hybrid assistant on android,  Carista obd adapter from Amazon also a good choice at low price.
One of the most important things about hybrid battery in any Toyota is to keep interior and boot area dry and clean.
There is a battery cooling fan that needs cleaning and all ducts and grill every 100k miles or 5 years. Newer models has filter to replace too.
And at the end when your battery dies you will find out because the car will trigger faults and warning messages on dashboard.
Any type of battery aged 10 years and over bring high possibilities of needing replacement. Interestingly these cars driven or not, low or high miles with age the battery chemistry slowly loses capacity.
The only way to extend life is to keep everything clean, dry and use the car frequently.
