Yaris Cross Mapbox Navigation 2023??

Hello.

This is my first venture into Toyota cars, so far i found the Yaris a pleasant drive, a little noisy on hybrid drive but overall good so far.

However, is it me? Because i do find the Mapbox navigation disappointing.

It works very well, speed camera detection is a bonus, i would have liked spoken warnings for this and speed limits.

The amount of settings you can change seems limited.

The choice of map definition is limited, either to dark or far to bright, adjustment does not help much.

The 3D effect i cannot see.

The nauseating navigation voice is something to behold and cannot be changed apparently,

A. it speaks to quickly.

B. it is difficult to understand.

C. some of the instructions overlap and you cannot understand any of it.

Further views to follow.

Having been a TomTom and Garmin user in the past maybe i am expecting to much.

Any thoughts guys?

Don't have the map module on my Yaris but I use Car Play and Apple or Google maps. My MX5 has Nav software but I prefer Car Play Nav options instead.

I fitted a wireless CarPlay module to both cars so it starts automatically when I start the car, even if the phone is in my pocket.

As Jeff said I use Apple car play with a charge cable to the phone and not wireless, with Google maps and all is good, updated map with speed limits and live traffic are far better then stand alone navigations this days.

If you use the cable make sure you buy a MFI approved cable (for iPhone) instead of using the original one as I had some issues

Also for google maps users I've downloaded the England offline map on the phone for offline usage so if there is no mobile signal on the road I still have navigation, the same for music apps I have downloaded song that I can listen offline

Yeah the on-board nav is not very good, when I did the test drive prior to ordering I even could not enter the address, search only supported the limited POI list. It's only advantage is HUD display support (and maybe the fact that you can still navigate if you cannot or don't want to) use Android Auto/Car Play

Steve, I can't think of anything you missed.  You can make out the 3D effect if you look a long way ahead.  Other than that you are right, it's pants.

I resisted Android Auto for two years as the older Touch 2 Go has a reasonable display.  I am now a convert.  Using the satellite view I can locate my brother in law's house when the post code is only accurate to 5 miles.

I can use voice command and name a shop, pub or whatever I want to go to.  Google search locates my destination and away we go.

Quite why auto manufacturers don't drop their own attempts and licence the best product I don't know.

If you are talking about the latest satnav unit then there was something wrong - you can enter pretty much anything you want. Postcode, street name, street and house number, business name, local attraction etc. Start typing an address and it presents all possibilities nationwide for you to select from, so you keep typing until the one you want is visible (or you scroll right!)

The in-built satnav can be very frustrating, but I don't think it helps if we claim it can't do the basics when it obviously can.

This issue is no more in my car delivered this year, I had the problems with demo car where I first tested this. Probably they fixed it in the meantime.
