2012 Yaris DPF problem, easy to change?

Hi,

I've had our Yaris since almost new and its a brilliant car, but the DPF keeps clogging. Ive had it cleaned numerous times, but it never lasts more than a month, so needs to be replaced. Does anyone know how difficult a job it is to remove and replace? I can get it reset by my local friendly garage, but I'd consider swapping it out myself if its not a nightmare of a job - I have a workspace, tools etc, no ramp though..

has anyone else done it, or describe how complex the removal is?

thanks

The big issue is probably cost of replacing it or finding a new part that will be of decent quality. I can't imagine many aftermarket (definitely not for reconditioned) parts being much use in the long run.

My relatives bought a 2013 diesel Yaris and around 2015-16 they had quite a bit of bother with the DPF, and it was sent to Toyota multiple times for various fixes such as forced regens. But eventually I believe some sort of software update plus a forced regen by them sorted it and they had no issues until it was written off.  Has yours definitely had all that sort of updating done?

Possibly just an age thing too, I suppose it's in its 11th year nearly 12th and it might be a fair 'lifetime spent' of that filter.

Look into whether or not some kind of reset of the computer monitoring system needs done if a new DPF was put.  Also, worth checking if perhaps a sensor is at fault, versus the DPF unit itself being done beyond repair?

Hope someone here can post with experience having done it themselves or paid to have it done.
