Punishment for committing crimes ?

We don't want to infringe on their Human Rights now, do we??

I remember the days when you would get a good "Clip alongside the earhole". Solved a lot of problems back then

Rocket into deep space?

And when they get there, further still.

There's an idea for Elon Musk, I trust he will pay me royalties if the idea takes off.

Is it really much of a punishment tho'? Free room and board with the opportunity to make new underworld contacts and learn new criminal skills at the taxpayer's expense?

Do they even get any sort of re-education to try lessen their chances of re-offending, or is it they just get years of their life wasted then they get spat out again with no assistance to re-integrate into society?

The impression I get is the main deterrent of prisons is fear of the other inmates and less the prison itself.

Some tips I'd say:

- Park within view of your house

- If you have a driveway, get a home camera pointing at it

- Don't leave any valuables visible, put them in the glovebox

- Small hand held items like a sat nav, you could take into the house if very valuable

- Insure valuable items if you can

- If incidents like this do happen, consider the cost of private replacement versus insurance. Especially for side glass that if you can get a hold of, and are handy DIY wise, could fit yourself or pay a mechanic to do. Big companies and bodyshops tend to inflate prices knowing that insurers just sign it off... cost going to you, the consumer of course. Might be worth a short term personal lump sum versus price discrimination from your insurer going forward

- Ensure car alarm is set (usually extra pressing the lock button)

I use a motorcycle alarm disc lock.

It's highly visible, 16mm shackle, goes off easily, and is 110db which inside a car is not pleasant.

Apart from that, I can't see much more I could do on an Aygo.

Maybe window film, but I am yet to see that done where it doesn't look crap after some time.

The secret is to either drive something no one wants or drive something no one else can. My Smart car fits in the second category. If you do not know how then it is totally confusing to make them go.

Hah indeed! I've heard it said in the Americas that the best theft deterrent is to have a manual car, as hardly anyone knows how to drive them over there
