So my Aygo 2007 plate has started playing up, once engine has started I have the abs and p/s lights flashing no pattern to it, and then when I start driving the lights go out, however when pulling up to traffic lights or stopping the lights start blinking again, then once get going again they switch off. Also when applying the clutch down the car starts making a rumbling sound. Have just tried to attach a couple of videos but files are to large, anyone potentially able to shed light on what issue maybe?

I don't think the Clutch and the lights are related.  Reason being the Clutch on the Aygo is purely mechanical.

As for the Rumbling, it could be the Throw-Out/Release bearing or something's broken on the Pressure Plate.  So more than likely, you'll need a new clutch.  Sad to say, a clutch job isn't cheap because it is highly labour intensive.  You are looking at around £450 to 750 depends on where you live.

But you wouldn't be able to get a clutch job done on any other car for that price..   so that's maybe comforting you a bit.

For Your Information (FYI), the cost of the clutch comprises of:

  1. A new clutch kit which contain Release bearing, pressure plate and fiction disc.  Cost varies from brand to brand.  Cheap one like EuroCarParts' Transmech will be £62.20.  Decent (probably Original Manufacturer) Exedy from GSF is £70.14.  Priemium brand Luk from GSF is £98.04.  Kits for other cars can goes into £250 - 700 especially those that uses Dual Mass Flywheel.
  2. Gear box oil - some garage will reuse old gearbox oil for cost saving.  For those who don't, they'll need 1.7 Litres of Toyota LV-75W sold at £17.50 per 1 Litre at the Toyota dealer (or eBay at similar price).
  3. Three to Four labour hours.  (3-4 hour is consider very low.  Most cars will be around 5-6.  The most I've seen so far is 12 on a Porsche). Labour rate varies from location to location.  Here at where I lived (Bournemouth) the shop next to me charges £60 per hour (3-4 hours at £60 = £180-240).  Dealership say my local Nissan charges £125.
  4. VAT at 20%

So theoretically, it is possible to find under £400 to do the clutch on Aygo.  However:

  • Garage usually charge a markup on parts. Say £62.20 for Transmech, they might charge £90
  • If you supply your own parts, the garage MIGHT refuse to accept the job for warranty reasons OR they will charge a higher labour rate to compensate for the profit they missed out on parts.

At the end of the day, it is very difficult to find a honest mechanic that's cheap and reliable.  Which is why I work on my own car.
