Power Steering

Recommended Posts

Posted

Afternoon All,

When starting my IQ3 today I found the power steering didn't feel right for approx 5-10 seconds, then felt ok, I drove about 2 miles and parked up,

when I started it again the same problem occurred again. I'm back home now but at a loss of what's wrong and am nervous about using it until I can

sort it, but not sure where to start.

Could any of you more experienced people advise me please on the way forward.

kind regards

Chris

A good start is by checking the Battery, could be slowly dying. Power steering is electric, and the first thing to fail when Battery is low or does not provide over 12.5 volt.

Hi Pete,

Would that be 12.5v when running or engine switched off ?

Thank you flash22,

fully understand now, tomorrow I'll do the checks and get back to you both.

Checked this morning, 12.36 with engine off and 14.04 under load, engine, lights, rear defrost and full fan.

Switched off everything, started up again and checked the steering straight away, No problem🙄 but will keep a

close eye on it all.

Thank you both for the advice, but it seems to be behaving at the moment.

Alternator on the way out?

voltages seem good, I would get the Battery load tested if it continues, it may be down on capacity

Morning All,

I've had the Battery load tested and the alternator checked out and they’ve both come back as no problem.

I’m a bit confounded now, as the car hasn’t played up since, so I’ll keep a watch on it, and now hopefully be able to identify the culprit if and when.

Thanks again for all your help yet again.

kind regards

Chris
