Post Office Horizon Computer Scandal.

It's definitely the group of people who were actively and wilfully blinkering themselves against all the problems and choosing to go after the posties rather than investigate that need the most punishment.

I'm aware of at least one person who was supposed to do an audit of the system, and he found many flaws and documented them in a report that was disseminated to the higher-ups, but his report was dismissed and buried, and he was discredited before being sacked - It's the people responsible for things like that that really need to face some serious consequences.

The other group that needs a good kicking is the group that has been actively blocking attempts to rectify the problems; Dismissing evidence, opposing appeals etc., even when it came to light all this was in error, and they still continued

And I'm not totally sure, but I believe there are a lot more victims out there - The 700-odd in the news are only the ones that got convictions or prison; There were many more postmasters who tried to fill the initial, smaller, false deficits with their own money before eventually quitting before the proverbial hit the fan, and I think the majority of those haven't surfaced yet!

I do wonder if the Post Office will be liable for extorting money under false pretences from all those people, as some of them paid several tens of thousands to try and fill the false deficit they were accused of, but that's money they should have been returned as soon as the errors came to light, but to my knowledge still hasn't for most...

Cyker, if, as is strongly suspected, the Post Office knowingly took money from the sub-postmasters to replace funds which never left the Post Office accounts, AND used bullying and their own “prosecution powers” to achieve this, then extortion under false pretences is the very least, and not necessarily the only, offence with which the Post Office should be charged.

I've read extracts of the testimony given by one of the Post Office "investigators", and clearly Post Office policy was to go after the minnows and protect the big fish. FWIW, it read like a jobsworth's description of company policy.

It's pretty bad; If the general public had any trust left in government organizations this will pretty much kill that off as it did for me - When I found out about this years ago I couldn't believe how they could just bypass all the rules and structures that were supposed to protect people from miscarriages of justice like this.

People like this who care so little and just couldn't be arsed to do any due diligence should not be given such sweeping power.

I predict word of the year for Christmas 2024 will be "horizon".

As In: That firmware update they did to my tv box is a bit horizon. 🙂

Just think how many of the Post Office hierarchy would still be enjoying excessive power if Alan Bates had not got the sub-postmasters together to fight their corner.

It isn’t surprising that unfit people get onto boards of companies, when many companies will take on someone. With a title just to create “valuable prominence” on their letter headings.

What really amazed and angered me, is that the Post Office  could circumvent the official CPS and be their own accuser,  judge and jury.  This is dictatorship.

I wonder if there are many companies with “horizon” in their trade mark, who will be restructuring said trade marks?  How many prospective customers might instinctively avoid products in the Fujitsu brand?

My camera is a Fujitsu.  Can I trust it not to convert any pictures I take into images likely to get me into court? 😂

At the very least, it is a complete lack of oversight, and explains more fully how the cover up could go on.

Sir Ed Dave’s seems determined not to hand back his knighthood.  Perhaps everyone who comes into contact with him should call him Mr Davey.  I bet he would be really irked by that.
