Auris keeps slipping into Neutral. Lost trust in the car.

Hi everyone,

I have a Toyota Auris 1.6 VVT-i TR Multimode 5dr 2008 (07 - 10).

Recently on a long trip the car twice slipped into Neutral while driving.

Once was in heavy traffic where it was quite slow moving. This was after an hour of driving at 30-70mph.

A couple of hours on the same day on a motorway again it went into neutral when going at slower speed off-motorway.

And ever since it has been throwing hissy fits whenever I take it for a drive.

I have lost confidence in this car. I had the clutch replace about 2.5 years ago by Toyota themselves and have encountered the Neutral problem before (see here https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/200864-any-help-please-losing-trust-auris-gets-stuck-in-neutral-when-driving-on-main-road-new-clutch-is-only-3-years-old-with-limited-driving/#comment-1580304)

What are your thoughts? Has anyone had this issue?

I am frankly losing confidence in this car. What an awful product by Toyota.

I would avoid any multimode type gearbox or equivalent offering from any manufacturer.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MultiMode_manual_transmission

Its essentially a manual gearbox with a motorized computer controlled clutch engagement.

I would stick with a conventional automatic transmission or a CVT gearbox when choosing an automatic.
