Handbrake and Park sequence

Ok, silly question time 😁

What is your sequence for using Park?

When setting off…

Brake pedal > Engine on > take out of Park (D or R) > handbrake off

When parking…

Brake pedal > handbrake on > put in Park > Engine off

My logic is don’t put stress on the Parking Pawl mechanism. Let the handbrake take the stress. In theory using the brake pedal throughout also avoids this.

I know you can configure the handbrake to automatically come on when you put the car in Park as well.

As a kid I remember my dad sometimes putting the car in Park before the handbrake and you would get that familiar slight roll back or forward as the pawl took the strain. Never struck me as the best way to do it!

I just use the auto EPB when you put it in P. When I stop, the brake hold is usually on, and it holds it on the foot brake until P has finished engaging the EPB, so no risk of straining the pawl.

Everything that you say except it's in auto handbrake.
