Sat in one this morning in showroom I thought it looked nice with the silver 16 inch wheels I’m on motability so being higher up is easier for me to get in and out like my CHR which I’ve had for nearly three years . Dealer said if I order now will have for April

I bought a September 22 Yaris Cross Icon Hybrid a couple of months ago.

I love the mini Rav4 look. Its very comfortable with a high seat position and it drives beautifully with enough go when required and excellent 60+mpg fuel comsumption overall.

I think the Icon small 16" wheels and big tyres help reduce road noise and soften the ride which some people have complained about.

One question though. Hybrids are more suited to people who use their car regularly for longer duration journeys. I only do two 8.5 mile each way journeys plus some very short 2 mile  journeys into town every week. As a result of this the 12 volt Battery auxiliary needs charging regularly by either leaving the car in ready mode for a couple of hours or overnight on a Ctek 5 smart charger.

Hope that helps.

The icon has halogen headlights, that is poor for night driving. If budget stretch to a design, that has LED headlights. Anyway don't pay dealer price, get a quote from carwow.

I bought a YC Excel and put the 18-inch wheels/tyres into storage (will re-fit when the car is sold) and fitted 3rd-party 16-inch wheels. Very significant reduction in road noise, possibly also helped by fitting some Goodyear all-season tyres, and car is now much better at dealing with my local abysmal cratered roads (which will only get worse, council is bankrupt). More detailed description with photos on this forum

If you carry rear passengers check the legroom. I'm 6ft and my 8 year old couldn't sit behind me. Otherwise look like nice cars.

Keeping the Battery charged seems to depend on the length of time in Ready/drive mode and the fewest starts. Eg if I drive to Watford and back without stopping (8.5 miles each way) the Battery retains more charge than if I stop, do my shopping and restart the car to drive home.

If you having already had a hybrid chr, I doubt you will have a problem with the yaris cross.

Presume that you have notified your insurers about the modifications you have made to the car. Have done this on 3 cars in the past but only over the winter months (November through March as permitted by most insurers) and there was never any extra to pay. But if you don't tell them you will find your cover reduced at best or cancelled at worst should you have an accident.

Yes indeed - good advice, I've made this type of mod a few times, insurance company when contacted only interested if the wheel size change is the other way ('boy racer with big wheels and low-profile tyres') no change at all in premium
