Auris 2018 creaking / clunking sound when transitioning from EV to Petrol engine

Hi all happy new year.

My beloved petrol honda civic 06 died on boxing day at 180,000 miles. I wanted a reliable car and purchased a Toyota auris hybrid from Toyota approved on 30th December 2023.

I reserved the car online and then paid £500.00 deposit over the phone. I paid the rest in cash when at the dealership and then they brought the car out to me.

On the drive home I heard a light creaking noise at low speeds but didn't think much more of it. However I have now driven the car for around 150-ish miles and the creaking noise has been joined by and clunking noise and has become more pronounced.

This only happened when the car is transitioning from EV to petrol engine and I am able to replicate it several times in a row.

I have done some googling for people experiencing this but have not found any mentions of this apart from CV joint or suspension issues. I am hoping someone here might have an idea of what this could be.

Any advice / guidance much appreciated!

Hi and welcome.
If can record the noise and share we can suggest better ideas. This time of the year Toyota cars can squeaking from control arm rear bushes, all they need is some silicone spray on them.

Hi Ged, take the car back and get them to take a look at it, you have just purchased it so why worry about sorting this out yourself.🙂

Thanks Bper, I was just hoping to know if anyone else had this issue before really!

Have an appointment later in the month for them to inspect.

First of all, what is your car model production year?

Did you do underbody check before you purchase the used car?  You should check the suspensions and front ends properly.  The control arms rear bushings are often creaky that I also have.  The remedy is simply pressure was them and spray the bushing areas with silicon grease spray.
