EV mode top speed

Apologies if this has been discussed before.

The maximum speed I could attain on my 2019 Yaris was 40mph before the engine cut in. Last night I did my first long journey in this  72 reg and coming home I managed several long sections at 55mph! I know you read that you can drive up to 80mph on Battery - even the Toyota car salesman said this - but we all know this is a load of rubbish!

What speeds on Battery do other members reach please?

Never managed more than 55mph on Battery alone, most constant result is 45-50 on a good level road.

Managed 60+, also the car is a huge improvement over the MK3.

It depends on several things.

1. There is an absolute max EV speed dictated by the overspeed rpm limit of MG1. That's about 45 on the MK3 (mine often goes there) and AIUI 60 ish on the MK4.

2. Sufficient charge in the Battery and also heat in the coolant if cabin heat is being demanded.

3. Whether the power MG2 can deliver is sufficient to meet the throttle demand.

If all of those are satisfied it will run in EV mode. Since the power MG2 can deliver is unlikely to be able to propel the car at higher speeds you are not going to see much EV operation then unless it's downhill. (jth's post above sounds about right.) Also even when it does do so the high power being pulled by MG2 will deplete the Battery fairly quickly.

On a straight level road, mine can fairly easily sustain 59mph on radar cruise as long as it has enough Battery.

The 80 mph quoted is the maximum speed the car can run at without the engine spinning - If you had a sufficiently steep hill you could roll down it at 80mph without the engine running, but MG2 doesn't have the power to sustain that on its own.

I am very curious what speed the MG2 in the new 130hp power train can hold!
