Was doing some maintenance on my 2012 Aygo at the weekend, and out of curiosity I checked the manufacture date on the Battery.  I've had the car 8yrs and never put a new Battery in it. Its got to be getting on a bit now

July 2012 ! nearly 11yrs old 133,000 miles.... and still on the original OEM Battery

I thought that was pretty good for an old Aygo. I mean it isn't a big battery, and I've read posts about them needing to be changed much earlier than that.

Changed my nine year old Battery recently, more of a precaution rather than a necessity. Saying that the car has only done 11k miles

I can well believe it. Like Chriss27 above I changed mine (Auris 1.33L) at 11 yrs old as a precaution although in normal use the original showed no signs of poor performance.

After swapping it I did do a discharge test on the old one (from a fully charged state) and estimated the capacity was down from the original 60Ah to somewhere in the region of 20Ah.

I also changed my Battery as precautionary measures after my Battery tester showing a red REPLACE message.

I mean, unless you have a Car Battery Jumper Pack or Jumper lead handy, otherwise when the tester said replace, you are better to replace it.   The last thing you want is stuck somewhere by not being able to start your car.  Sure there are break down covers but it can take anything from 30 minutes to 6 Hours to get to you.

That is impressive!

It's a real hit and miss. Our iQ needed a new Battery after just five years and 20k. Other's I've done 250k over 12 years on original Battery. But I'd say overall, batteries tend to last a long time.

I think doing a 45min run on the motorway twice a day helps.

Still, might be worth doing a Battery test on it
