2014 Hybrid Yaris Battery replacement

Hi guys,

Has anyone changed their hybrid Battery at all or swapped at least a few modules with new ones?

What was the process like? Did you take it to a place which specialised in this? How did it go, and what sort of cost was it involved?

Can you upgrade the Yaris Hybrid batteries to better ones rather than the standard Toyota ones?

Thank you,

ii

Sounds like your car doesn't have an issue with it, just want to know the info in the event it fails. Don't think anyone on the forum had an issue with the MK3 traction Battery

Also I assume it's more involved that just simply upgrading the Battery, i.e the ECU probably need coding etc. Ring around some Toyota specialist. Also don't think anyone here has done/consider it. Get the MK4 in the future is the easiest way.

I don't have any issues, but I would like to refurbish it at some point. Checking its health with Dr. Prius, my Battery health is 67%.

The car is 9 years old with almost 19,000 miles on it. I got it from my elderly neighbour, who was the first owner from New. When I got the car last year in April, it had 9800 miles, so this car, to me, is brand new (in and out). Been always serviced at Toyota and still have the warranty on the hybrid system until late October 2024.

I test-drove the new Yaris Hybrid and don't know what to say about it. Design-wise, it looks fantastic, but the plastic was rattling too much. I'm not saying the MK3 has better soundproofing, but it felt like the MK4 was nosier.

Will keep the car for longer before upgrading to something else from Toyota or a Lexus.

That isn't bad for a 9 year old. Would just leave as it is then change car. I had 16 plate hybrid now a MK4 design, haven't notice any issue with rattling in mine as most MK4 owners, there was only one member had that problem with loose bits in the roof lining and dash. The car is a major improvement to the MK3.

A lot of forum members regarded the MK4 as the best super mini around as a package. Of course a corolla or lexus is a class above the Yaris.

I think the Mk4 is the noisiest of the 4 generations but it also has the least engine noise so it may just be that skewing my perception a bit. It does sound like there's a window slightly open though

It by far has the best responsiveness and driving dynamics of all of the models though.

I do wish it had the internal flexibility of the Mk2 - The sliding rear seats and insane number of storage cubbies the Mk1 and Mk2 had was very handy and something I miss in the Mk3 and Mk4.

I can't remember the last time I've seen a post of anyone replacing the traction Battery in any Toyota hybrid on here, except for the odd warranty case in the Mk2 Prius.

The mk4 my be a little noisier than the mk3 (we had a mk3 for 6 years), but the mk4 is a load better to drive - chassis & powertrain are much improved on the mk4, and fuel economy is head & shoulders above

Yeah, it's insane. It's so agile and responsive, but even driving it like a hooligan the way I do, I still average 60-70mpg across a tank. Can even get into the low 80's in summer if I apply a modicum of restraint!

If you like driving but are also concerned about fuel economy there is no better car out there IMHO.

It's like a Fiesta but without the reliability issues and fuel guzzling

I will say it's not as practical as some of the earlier ones, particularly the Mk2, but there aren't many small cars that have as flexible an interior as the Mk2.
