Five year warranty

Can somebody tell me when a vehicle warranty begins if the vehicle was first delivered to a customer as a lease rather than a purchase and then was subsequently sold by the dealer to a second customer. The service document states retail purchase but without any definitions .

when is it due for its service? has it been Toyota serviced from new? if not it will be covered by relax, it's over 5 years old unless it is a late 68 plate (2019)

The document is quite confusing . I bought a 2019 registered Yaris in 2022 . It had been on a lease contract and I was the first owner apart from Toyota. It is now coming up to five years old so what warranty does it have.?

Whether the car was a lease or a retail sale when new and first registered for use on the road,  is a red herring.

Regardless of manufacturer, the new car warranty always begins when the car is first registered.

If your car was first registered in 2019 (not 2018 as per your profile), the new car warranty (5 years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first) ends on the day before the 5th anniversary of the first registration date.

Examples:

1. For a car first registered 1st January 2019, the new car warranty will have expired on 31st December 2023.

2. For a car first registered on 1st February 2019, the new car warranty will expire on 31st January 2024.

What date was your car first registered? Your V5C will state the first registration date.

It was registered on the 18th of January 2019. It has a leaking shock absorber and I would like to claim on the warranty.

So your new car warranty will expire on 17th January 2024 (this coming Wednesday).

When was it last serviced by a Toyota dealer?

It was serviced by Toyota in 2022. It has been serviced twice since by a non-Toyota garage and the service record stamped.

Oooh, better get it booked in for replacement quick then if you want it done under the new car warranty!

If the last service was with Toyota it will have a Relax active on it tho', assuming shocks are covered by Relax, so less urgent.

If it was serviced by a third party, then you've not got much time!

It's not common for those to leak tho...

I will call my local Toyota dealer in the morning. It had a service and MOT today which is whn the shock absorber was flagged. It also has cracked bushes.

Yaris went in for an assessment and I have been told that the shock absorber is not leaking enough to be repaired under warranty. So sometime in the future it will eventually require replacement by which time it will no longer be covered . In addition the front wiper split between my home and the garage after it was picked up this morning.

Having just re-read the warranty t&c, shock absorbers are not covered by the warranty.  Found out because of a post in 12v Battery section where reference e to mileage was made.

See page 6, section 13, sub-para (b)

If they change yours if they get worse -result!
